Introducing Shusaiya Ago Soko

Today we’re spotlighting
“Shusaiya Ago Soko,”
located in Kamikumamoto, Nishi Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

You’ll find it along the same street as Seikoen Kamikumamoto (which we’ve featured before), and it’s just a quick walk from Kamikumamoto Station — super convenient for travelers!

The parking lot is right in front of the restaurant, so getting in and out is a breeze (*^^*)

Step inside and you’ll find a wide, airy space with plenty of seating options — including
traditional tatami seating,

table seats, a counter, and even private rooms tucked toward the back!

The private rooms come with a kotatsu (a traditional Japanese heated table) — so during the cooler months, you can dine in the cozy comfort of a homey, warm setting. A wonderful way to experience authentic Japanese hospitality (≧∀≦)

Recommended Menu at Shusaiya Ago Soko

For lunch, the menu is exclusively Indian curry ♫

You can choose from a generous lineup of 7 different curries, and each set comes with curry + the 3S Bar + your choice of one drink!

There’s also a Kids Set (for elementary school students up to 6th grade)!

White rice + 3S Bar + your choice of one drink (500 yen)

The 3S Bar is an all-you-can-eat buffet of Salad, Side dishes (vegetable-based), and Soup — perfect for sampling lots of healthy Japanese flavors ♬

Just look at that mountain of rakkyo (pickled Japanese scallions) — I’ve never seen so much in one place! (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

The buffet features classic Japanese sides like fresh salad, marinated soft-boiled eggs (ajitama), dashi-rolled omelette, simmered turnip greens, marinated green beans, potato salad, namasu (sweet vinegared vegetables), and smashed cucumber. A great chance to enjoy a wide variety of vegetables (*^^*)

This time, we tried the Standard Chicken Curry (980 yen) and the Fermented Butter Chicken Curry (1,080 yen).

Side by side, the two curries have totally different colors!

You can pick your spice level from Mild, Medium, Hot, or Extra Hot. We went with Medium for the Standard Chicken Curry!

It has a pleasant little kick, and you can squeeze on lemon for a refreshing flavor change. Beans and nuts add a fun crunch, and the housemade tandoori chicken is absolutely delicious (≧∀≦)

For the Fermented Butter Chicken Curry, we chose Hot!

This is a mild-based curry finished with coconut, fresh cream, and fermented butter ♪
The first bite spreads a creamy, mellow sweetness across your palate, but since we ordered it Hot, the spices kick in afterward and warm you up from the inside out (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

We dropped by for lunch this time, but the restaurant transforms into an izakaya (Japanese pub) at night. We’d love to come back, slip into a kotatsu, and enjoy izakaya-style dishes in that home-away-from-home vibe ♡
