Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma,
and lately I’ve been completely hooked on hot apple desserts!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to
Patisserie Effort, a delightful cake shop located in
Soryo, Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Look for the chic, sophisticated exterior decorated with mouthwatering photos of cakes —
that’s how you’ll know you’ve arrived at Patisserie Effort!

Parking is conveniently available right in front of the shop,
so it’s easy to drop by by car!

Inside, the shop has a calm, refined atmosphere,
with beautifully arranged cakes lined up in the display case.
The owner is wonderfully friendly, and during our chat I learned something fascinating:
he subtly adjusts the sweetness, saltiness, and acidity of his signature cakes
to match how people’s taste buds shift with the seasons!
His genuine passion for both his cakes and the customers who visit really shines through.

These are the year-round signature cakes that are always available.

Recommended Picks

This time I went with the seasonal cakes!
First up:
Apple & Tea Tart — 520 yen

Apple × Tea
The ultimate winning combination!
The tart shell is fragrant with tea,
and the soft yet slightly crisp sweet apples are absolutely delicious.
The custard plays the perfect supporting role,
creating a beautiful harmony of flavors in every bite.
Bravo!

Next:
Red-Flesh Melon Tart — 565 yen
I’ve never tried a melon tart before… this is exciting!
Wow, what a revelation!
This melon tart is incredibly delicious!
The natural sweetness of the melon bursts out together with its juicy freshness,
flowing like a waterfall of umami and sweetness in every bite!
The refreshing sweetness makes it incredibly easy to enjoy.
Melon is truly the best…

Next up:
Japanese Chestnut Mont Blanc — 560 yen
When you think of autumn in Japan, you think of chestnuts!
This is an absolute must-try seasonal flavor.

Mont Blanc really is the best.
Whoever invented this dessert is a genius.
I want to thank them with all my heart.
The refined, gentle sweetness pairs beautifully with the rich chestnut flavor,
and the fresh cream brings out the chestnut’s natural taste even more.

Apologies for the half-eaten photo!
A big, plump chestnut emerged from inside —
that’s truly a moment of pure happiness!
I thoroughly enjoyed these blissful autumn sweets.
Patisserie Effort’s cakes are filled with the owner’s heartfelt passion and gentle flavors.
