Introducing H donuts
Hello, travelers! This is Aikero, writer for [Sarukuma].
Today I’m taking you to Mashiki Town in Kamimashiki District,
[H donuts].
Born from the specialty coffee shop [H COFFEE LABORATORY] inside Mashiki Town’s Mashikirari complex,
the fresh donut specialty shop [H donuts] held its grand opening on Friday, November 1st!
Even though it just opened, this donut shop is already the talk of the town.
And it’s not only because of the famous 30-second shelf life!
Let me show you what makes it so special (^^)/
The interior is sleek and refined.
This chic atmosphere isn’t a coincidence — H donuts is a sister shop of [Princess Tart], located in Ansei-machi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City!
So naturally, expectations for the donuts run high (●^o^●)
Even the trays and tongs are matched perfectly to the shop’s aesthetic — you’ll feel excited before you even pick up a donut!
Here’s the lineup at the time of our visit!

Donuts waiting to be fried.
They’re fried right here, so dig in the moment you receive yours!!
Here’s the drink menu.
As you’d expect from a coffee shop, the lineup is impressive (●^o^●)
There’s also cocoa, milk, and juice for kids, which is a real plus for families ♪

From left to right:
Glazed Orange, Super Chocolat, Pistachio, and Framboise.
Think they’re just stylish donuts? Think again!
The creams and toppings are all handmade by the pastry chef.
The fresh custard cream is cooked from scratch every morning.
Every single donut is the result of countless rounds of recipe development — these are seriously crafted creations.
I couldn’t wait to dig in ♪
A kid favorite — the Super Chocolat.
We were torn between this and the Super Kinako, but my daughter made the call ♪
Take a bite and you’ll get cocoa around your mouth — but that’s part of the fun ( ̄▽ ̄)
Inside the soft, fluffy chocolate dough is a generous filling of chocolate ganache!
It’s not too heavy and not too sweet — just a perfectly balanced sweetness that shows the pastry chef means business.
I came along with Gussan for this visit ♪
The look on his face after biting into the Pistachio said it all (#^.^#)
The fresh-fried H Donut.
It took a few seconds longer than 30 to take photos, but it was still warm!
That coating around it isn’t kinako — it’s kibi sugar (Japanese unrefined cane sugar).
Crispy on the outside, fluffy and chewy on the inside, and somehow it just melts in your mouth — what an amazing texture!!
I’ve never had a donut like this before (>_<)!
Then again, fresh-fried donuts themselves are pretty rare!
The dough’s yellow color comes from domestic kuri kabocha (Japanese chestnut pumpkin) paste.
“We mash it all by hand!” they told me — what a surprise.
Look closely and you can even see bits of the skin.
You can’t actually taste the pumpkin, so even folks who don’t love it will be fine ♪
The rich sweetness of the kibi sugar is pure happiness (●^o^●)
Only 70 are sold per day, so do whatever you can to grab a numbered ticket and try one fresh from the fryer…!
We took home what we couldn’t finish.
They’d make a wonderful gift to bring along when visiting friends!
Even cooled down, the texture stays soft and chewy — though that magical melting sensation really only happens when they’re fresh out of the fryer (^_^;)
You can spot the pumpkin skin too.
And get this — the colors are completely free of artificial dyes!
In keeping with the philosophy of “donuts that kids can enjoy with peace of mind,” they avoid white sugar and minimize additives wherever possible.
The glaze isn’t too sweet, and the tart-sweet cranberries on top really shine ♪
It’s a ring shape, but the dough texture inside is still beautifully fluffy.
Could there be lemon juice in there?
The slightly tangy glaze paired with the refreshing, mildly bitter orange will keep you reaching for another bite…!
The H Donut delivers a melt-in-your-mouth texture I’d never experienced before.
They’re also currently developing a gluten-free donut.
It didn’t make the grand opening because they refuse to compromise on quality, but I’m excited for what’s to come ♪
This is a place built on the heartfelt wish to serve donuts kids can safely enjoy, and to liven up Mashiki Town from this very spot at [H donuts].
It’s sure to become a brand-new local hotspot, filled with the smiles of everyone enjoying these delicious donuts ♪
