Welcome to Kanmidokoro Usagi Nouen Cafe
Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for [Sarukuma].
Today I’m introducing a charming spot in Suya, Koshi City:
[Kanmidokoro Usagi Nouen Cafe].
A brand-new cafe has opened from Usagi Nouen (Rabbit Farm) — a Kumamoto favorite known for its rare, colorful vegetables and irresistible rice flour donuts!
The owners previously ran a beloved shop called “Tsuki no Usagi-do” in Saiku-machi, Chuo Ward of Kumamoto City, serving handmade mitarashi dango and baked donuts.
After that shop closed, they relocated here to Suya in Koshi City.
“Kanmidokoro Usagi Nouen Cafe” brings three things together under one roof: a farm-stand shop, a sweets cafe, and a food-processing kitchen!
By the way, our writer Kurubushi previously visited “Usagi Nouen Stand” inside Ru-Ro Koshi.
Be sure to check out that article too! (^^)/
The shop is just steps from Shin-Suya Station.
Google Maps will guide you right there!
Look for the bright yellow signboard along the road.
There are two parking areas.
The first one has space for 4 cars.
Concrete blocks make the spaces easy to spot!
The second lot is at the back of the shop and fits about 3 kei (compact) cars.
You’ll need to park diagonally as shown in the photo.
Since it’s right beside the road, please drive carefully when parking and heading to the shop.
Note: The far-right corner of the first parking area is NOT the entrance to the shop.
This is the actual entrance.
The stylish atmosphere already gets you excited!
Walk through the lovely garden, and there it is!
There’s a small step at the entrance and inside, but strollers are welcome (^^)/
Here’s the eat-in space.
There are 2 table seats, plus a row of counter seats by the window.
You can reserve a seat through the official Usagi Nouen Cafe LINE account (^^)/
Guests kept arriving steadily during my visit, so booking ahead is a smart move!
Here’s the window-side counter.
The retro vibes paired with the green view outside are pure relaxation.

Recommended Menu at Kanmidokoro Usagi Nouen Cafe
I ordered the mitarashi dango and a coconut rice flour donut.
My friend ordered the dessert flower syrup drink to share.
The moment they arrived, the savory aroma of soy sauce drifted gently into the air!
The mitarashi sauce is made completely from scratch in-house, using kombu (kelp) dashi — incredible attention to detail.
Took a bite while it was still piping hot.
The crispy, savory grilled exterior combined with a not-too-sweet, soy-forward mitarashi was outstanding!
The rice flour dango itself has a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture that’s totally unique…
The mochi-like chewiness isn’t too sticky, so it’s easy for kids to bite through too.
As soon as this arrived at the table, the sweet aroma of coconut floated up♡
The crunchy coconut paired with a moist, satisfying donut is a perfect match.
Surprisingly, it lacks that grainy texture rice flour sweets sometimes have — even people who don’t usually love rice flour treats can enjoy this one!
Here’s the “Mitaraccho” I tried during my summer visit.
A whole skewer of mitarashi dango on top of shaved ice (kakigori)!
The kinako (roasted soybean flour) and anko (sweet bean paste) are made from Usagi Nouen’s own Misao soybeans and azuki beans.
The kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup) and condensed milk are homemade too!
Dig in deeper and you’ll find a hidden layer of cream inside!
It’s a generous portion, but the flavors stay interesting all the way to the last spoonful♪
The gentle sweetness combined with that almost-overwhelming kinako fragrance — I just couldn’t put my spoon down!
It’s noticeably bigger than the vending-machine version too♪
Usagi Nouen’s rice flour baked donuts also appeared in our donut taste-test feature.
