About the Shop

Hello there! This is Asukarando, your Sarukuma writer.

Today I’m introducing a delightful local gem in
Ueki, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City,
“Nanohana”.

Look for the cute little shop marked by a bright yellow mailbox — that’s ‘Nanohana’.

The space in front of the store serves as the parking lot.

Even before you step inside, you’re greeted by displays of fresh local vegetables.
It’s hard to resist reaching out — you might never make it through the door! (^^;

And next, waiting just outside, is the irresistible attraction —
everyone’s favorite, Japanese roasted sweet potatoes (yakiimo)!

Resisting temptation just for a moment, I made my way inside! (^-^)/

The shop is small and cozy, lined with handmade Japanese deli dishes prepared by the warm and chatty okaasan (mother/owner) (^-^)
Even while cooking in the back, she came out to chat with us! (^-^)/

She told us the best selection is available just before lunchtime.

Loaded oden (simmered hot pot) — 500 yen
Large tonjiru (pork & veggie miso soup) — 380 yen
Chicken tomato stew — 500 yen

The size of the bowls is genuinely impressive! (^з^)-☆

Above all, okaasan’s nishime (simmered vegetables) is absolutely outstanding!

They also offer homemade Japanese pickles! (^-^)

Pickles (tsukemono) — 130 yen

Fresh croquettes were just being brought out!

This time, I gave in to the temptation at the entrance and tried the
Yakiimo (roasted sweet potato) — 200 yen

Just look at that smile in front of a freshly roasted sweet potato! (^o^)
In winter, nothing beats yakiimo! (^o^)

Being able to grab both deli food and dessert in one stop is pretty wonderful! (^з^)-☆

My son chose the
Chocolate cake — 250 yen

Fluffy chocolate sponge layered with rich, authentic ganache — absolutely delicious! (^o^)
But remember — this isn’t a patisserie, it’s a deli shop!
