Introducing Morimoca Sweets Shop

Hello travelers! This is Gussan, writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m excited to introduce a charming little gem located in Kenkun, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City
【Morimoca Sweets Shop (モリモカ)】
The shop officially opens on November 1st, but I had the chance to visit during the pre-opening event.
You’ll find it just off the tram street, at the intersection where you can spot “Mohaya Saikoukessaku.”
This is the same location where “KONKON Inari” used to be.
Even though it was just the pre-opening, when I arrived after 12 noon there was already a line forming!
What an absolutely adorable sweets shop!
The pastries look delicious, the storefront is charming, and the staff is just as lovely.
It practically had me swooning with excitement!
The interior displays are beautifully styled.
It’s exactly the kind of cozy aesthetic I personally adore.Curious about what was on display, I leaned in for a closer look — and discovered they were actually pastry-making tools!
What brilliant styling sense!
If I tried this at home, it would just look like clutter…
The grand opening is just around the corner, and I’m already eagerly looking forward to seeing how this lovely shop will grow.
The sweets lined up in the display case look absolutely stunning.
Just looking at them, you can feel the care and craftsmanship that went into each piece — clearly made with love for this special day.

Recommended Treats at Morimoca Sweets Shop

Since we ended up enjoying our treats outside with the kids, we didn’t have plates or forks (oh no!).
With the children urging “Hurry! Can we eat now?”, I quickly snapped some photos!

We picked up the
Victoria Sponge Cake (Blueberry)
They also offered strawberry and fig versions besides blueberry.
The combination of the fluffy sponge with rich cream and jam truly lives up to its royal name —
it makes you feel like you’re indulging in something special.
Domestic Lemon Cake.
The tartness of the lemon is incredibly refreshing. The aroma of lemon hits the moment it touches your tongue —
it’s truly addictive. The kids loved this one the most! ♡

This is the canelé.
The contrast between the crisp outer shell and the soft, custardy interior creates a wonderful flavor experience.
My husband enjoyed it as the perfect companion to his coffee.

Next up, the carrot cake.
Topped with fluffy cream over a moist batter packed with carrots and walnuts.
The cinnamon-spiced sponge has a soft, chewy texture. This was my personal favorite!
Last but not least, the doughnut placed atop the display case.
Crispy on the outside, light and airy inside.
The slightly imperfect, handmade shape gives it an irresistible homemade charm.
