Hello travelers! It’s [Gachako], your laid-back writer who pops up every now and then.

Today I’m introducing
Fruit Drink ASO RAINBOW TERRACE,
located in Kain, Minamiaso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

This is a re-feature following the shop’s recent relocation.

Coming from central Kumamoto City, drive through the Tawarayama Tunnel, and you’ll spot this signboard on your left around the Kugino area.

The new shop has an adorable white exterior that looks just like a dollhouse 💕

Inside, the shop is filled with handcrafted works by local Aso artisans.

As a fan of unique handmade goods myself, I couldn’t help but get lost browsing before placing my order.
The workshop space here also hosts hands-on craft workshops led by local artisans from time to time.

ASO RAINBOW TERRACE Recommended Menu

Here’s the drink menu.

Amazingly, every drink is just 500 yen, flat rate.

And here’s the light meals menu.

A perfect lineup of easy-to-eat treats for an Aso road trip.

This time, the kids picked two Aso strawberry drinks and one Tamana early-harvest mikan (mandarin orange) drink — all served with sparkling water.
(You can choose from sparkling water, still water, or HOT.)

The weather was beautiful, so we enjoyed our drinks at the terrace seats.

The kids were thrilled by the homemade syrup drinks topped with edible flowers.

(Calm down, you two!)

Unable to resist temptation, I also ordered the Cinnamon-spiced Aso Apple Hot Sandwich (700 yen).

The set comes with two hot sandwiches, a savory pie, and soup.

The combination of cinnamon × apple × cream cheese brought a cozy warmth perfect for a chilly Aso drive.

The savory pie in the set was a meat pie, and behind it you can see a vegetable consommé soup.

The kids even received a sweet surprise — rainbow cookies as a gift from the staff.
