A Sarukuma writer visits “open terrace Kokyo,” a charming restaurant overlooking Ezu Lake in Kumamoto. Price range: from around 2,000 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access information, and operating hours.

About the Restaurant

Hello travelers!
I’m Rennyu, a Sarukuma writer (◍‒ᴗ‒◍)

Today I’m excited to introduce you to
“Kokyo”, a hidden gem located in Kamimizu, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City.

As you wind your way along the path between the quiet residential streets and the beautiful Ezu Lake…

…a stylish gray house comes into view!

Look out for the adorable duck-themed sign – it’s the perfect landmark! β™‘The parking lot is right in front of the restaurant, but heads up…
it fills up quickly!

It’s a bit hard to see in the photo because the cars are packed in tightly, but yes, that’s the parking area.

We just barely managed to squeeze into a spot right in front of the restaurant (⁰o⁰;)

I highly recommend carpooling if you’re visiting with friends.

This time, we walked through a charming little path that felt like the entrance to a secret hideaway,
and were seated at a terrace table with breathtaking views over Ezu Lake β™‘

The view from the terrace is absolutely spectacular (*˘︢˘*).q*β™‘

It was a little chilly that day,
but the staff thoughtfully provided cozy blankets to borrow – such a lovely touch of Japanese hospitality!

Recommended Menu Items

For our visit, we ordered the

Carne Meat Lunch Course (2,000 yen).

The appetizer features carefully selected local Kumamoto ingredients.

Whether you eat it as is or dip it in the basil sauce on the side,
it’s incredibly delicious ✧(⁰▿⁰)

Even my friend who claims she doesn’t like vegetables
cleaned her plate completely (ο½₯oο½₯;)

The soup brought out the natural sweetness of pumpkin – simply exquisite!

Although it’s a potage,
it was surprisingly light and refreshing β™ͺ

The black rice puff topping added a delightful crunch
as the perfect accent (β€’Νˆα΄—β€’Νˆ)

And then came the main meat dish (β™‘Ο‰β™‘)!

Roti of Whey-Fed Pork Fillet

“Roti” means roasted, similar to the English term “roast.”

The sauce is a creamy yamaimo (Japanese mountain yam) butter sauce.

It looked absolutely stunning, and the taste was incredibly, incredibly, incredibly
delicious.

So delicious that the only word I could come up with was “delicious.”

The meat was tender and wonderfully creamy (*˘︢˘*).q*β™‘

Just thinking about it makes me happy all over again. (laughs)

For dessert: pound cake and tiramisu.

Served alongside seasonal persimmons – a lovely autumn touch.

Loaded with rich mascarpone,
it was the most luxurious tiramisu I’ve ever tasted (ㆁωㆁ)

I went with a friend this time,
but there were also families with small children dining there, so
it’s perfect for a special treat with friends,
and equally wonderful for family celebrations
or anniversary dinners (◍‒ᴗ‒◍)β™‘

The staff were genuinely warm and attentive,
so you can dine here with complete peace of mind β™‘

We had made a reservation, but
even at the 11:30 a.m. opening time, the restaurant was already filling up quickly,
so I highly recommend booking ahead!

I’m normally not a fan of making reservations,
but this is one of those restaurants worth the extra effort!

This place truly satisfies both your stomach and your soul ( κˆα΄—κˆ)

I had such a magical, memorable time here q*゚+

(I lost track of time so completely that I forgot about my next appointment and had to rush home in a panic – haha!)

Whether you’re looking to unwind from daily stress, celebrate a special occasion, or treat yourself to something memorable β™‘

Be sure to give it a try ⁽⁽◝( β€’ΰ―°β€’ )β—œβΎβΎ
