About the Bakery

Hello, travelers!

The temperature swings between morning and afternoon have been so wild lately that I never know what to wear — this is Binako, your Sarukuma writer!

Today I’m excited to introduce a delightful little bakery located in Mawatari, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Boulangerie 9B”.

The stylish, warmly colored exterior — accented with a wheat-stalk logo — is already hinting at the deliciousness waiting inside ♪

There’s a cozy terrace with tables and chairs, so you can enjoy your bread on the spot — perfect for a relaxed eat-in moment ( *´艸`)

The shelves are loaded with sweet pastries that kids will love!
Melon Pan (Japanese melon-shaped sweet bun) — 150 yen
Cranberry Roll — 130 yen
Croissant — 200 yen

Mini Wiener Bun — 120 yen
Jumbo Frankfurter Bun — 250 yen
A wonderful lineup for sharing fun bites with your little ones ♪

There are also plenty of savory breads that pair beautifully with a meal ^^

What’s more, the bakery rotates a special monthly selection. This month’s theme is “breads that pair perfectly with wine,” featuring:
Beef Stew Pie — 300 yen
Pain aux Pommes (apple bread) — 240 yen
and more — a real treat for adventurous eaters!

The sandwich selection is impressive too! Honestly, being able to taste so many different breads in one visit is a small slice of bakery heaven (*´Д`)ww

Recommended Picks

This time, I went with:
Whole Wheat Salt Bread — 120 yen
Totoro Bun — 130 yen

Whole wheat bread is my absolute weakness!!
It’s surprisingly hard to find, so being able to grab one for just 120 yen feels like a small victory!

Whole wheat means it’s also packed with dietary fiber ( *´艸`)

The toasty, nutty aroma of the bread blends so beautifully with the savory salt notes that define a classic Japanese “shio pan” (salt bread). Truly delicious (*´Д`)

The buttery, crispy bottom of the salt bread? That’s my favorite part of all.

The dough is wonderfully soft, with a moist, tender crumb that just melts in your mouth!!

The Totoro Bun (named after the beloved Studio Ghibli character) hides chocolate inside, and its tummy is made of cookie dough — three delicious textures in one cute bun ♪

The chocolate has a real cacao depth with a slightly bitter sweetness, making it just as enjoyable for adults as it is for kids ^^

With such a wonderful variety of breads on offer, this is definitely a stop worth adding to your Kumamoto food itinerary — please give it a try!
