Introducing Kent Merry Chiffon Cake
Hello there!
Loving the cooler evenings lately —
this is Binako, your Sarukuma writer!
Today I’m taking you to
Obiyama, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, to a charming little shop called
“Kent Merry Chiffon Cake.”

That retro-style facade with the wooden rocking horse out front
feels like the entrance to a different world…
it really gets you excited before you even step inside ( *´艸`)

As I went to head inside,
I noticed someone had already claimed the spot out front!
I asked, “Mind if I come in?”
and the little visitor moved aside without a fuss!
Ahh — the gates of romance just swung wide open in my heart.

Here’s the inside.
It’s a cozy little space, but the calm, gentle atmosphere
is truly enchanting.

There’s an eat-in corner, too,
so if you have time, you can sit down and enjoy a relaxing tea break!

And here are the chiffon cakes themselves.
The selection rotates throughout the day, and on this visit they had:
Chocolate, Vanilla, Sweet Potato,
Pumpkin, and Banana, plus Raspberry and Black Tea as well ^^
Every cut slice is just 250 yen (*´ω`*)
The shop staff are wonderfully kind and take the time to chat warmly with you (´;ω;`)
PayPay is accepted at checkout (^^♪
Kent Merry Chiffon Cake: Recommended Menu

After much deliberation, this time I went with
the two flavors the staff said were most popular:
Vanilla — 250 yen
Banana — 250 yen
Sold!

Can you tell from the photo?
Each slice is generous —
about as big as your open palm can hold.
For 250 yen, that’s seriously great value.

I started with the banana.
Real banana is baked right in, so you can really feel that ripe, fully-developed flavor (*´Д`)

Melt-in-your-mouth banana — wow!!!!
This isn’t just a hint of banana flavoring — it’s the real, full-bodied taste of banana!
And the sponge is incredibly light and airy!
Press it gently with your tongue and the flavor floods out!

Next up: the vanilla.
You can clearly see the little black specks of real vanilla bean.
Yep — this is the real-deal vanilla.

Just the right amount of sweetness!
Even though it’s vanilla, it isn’t overly sweet —
it’s that perfectly gentle, balanced kind of sweet!
It goes down so easily — I’d absolutely recommend this one for anyone who finds desserts too sugary!
The slices are big, so I wondered if I’d be able to finish two, but
no problem at all. Yep.
Next time, I’d love to try the sweet potato and pumpkin flavors!
