Introducing Karaage Fukuchan

Hello, travelers!
This is Igaguri 🌰, your SaruKuma writer.

Today we’re heading to
Nohara, Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture, to a fantastic little fried chicken shop called
“Karaage Fukuchan.”

It’s right near “Lumacheyo Coffee,” which we featured here on SaruKuma just the other day β€” perfect for combining with a coffee stop!

You’ll find it along National Route 208, with a fresh fruit stand right next door β€” easy to spot from the road!

Are we still in Arao? Or have we slipped just over into Nagasu?
The map shows it sitting right on that border (haha)!

Recommended Menu at Karaage Fukuchan

The karaage (Japanese fried chicken) comes in three signature flavors: garlic-soy, salt, and lemon, all priced at just Β₯85 per piece.

Lunch bento boxes are available at lunchtime only β€” choose your favorite flavor of 4 karaage pieces with a daily side dish for one coin (Β₯500).
Upgrade to a large rice portion for an extra Β₯50.

If 4 pieces feels like too much, try the “Mini Bento” with 3 karaage pieces (^^β™ͺ

Other tempting options include chicken croquettes, chicken nuggets, and kimchi-flavored fried chicken wings β€” they all sound amazing!

This time, we ordered:
Garlic Soy Karaage β€” 3 pieces for Β₯255
Lemon Karaage β€” 3 pieces for Β₯255
Fried Chicken Wings β€” 3 pieces for Β₯390 (^^β™ͺ

Each portion comes in its own plastic bag to prevent the oil from making everything greasy β€” a thoughtful touch!

And check out those extra-long toothpicks β€” they were sticking right out of the bag!

The seasoning is bold and rich β€” perfect alongside a cold beer or sake. β™‘
The chicken wings have that nostalgic, home-cooked Japanese flavor that hits the spot (^_-)-β˜†

And the lemon karaage here? It’s not your average chicken with a squeeze of lemon at the end…
It’s infused with an authentic, fragrant lemon aroma that takes it to a whole new level!

One peek at their Instagram prep photos reveals the secret…

That’s a LOT of lemons!!! (Photo shared with permission)
It’s wonderfully refreshing β€” even kids can enjoy it (don’t worry, it’s not sour!) β˜†

Plus, they only use fresh, domestic Japanese chicken β€” so you can eat with peace of mind (*’β–½’*)

Bento boxes can be delivered for orders of 10 or more, including weekends and holidays!
They also take custom hors d’oeuvre platter orders to fit your budget β€” perfect for cherry blossom viewing parties (hanami), sports days, Christmas gatherings, and more.
