Hello, travelers!

Resisting the urge to grab something sweet
and sticking with hot water instead — I deserve a little praise today!
This is Binako, writer for Sarukuma!

Today, I’m excited to introduce a charming spot located in
Suizenji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Cafe Terrace Sun Royal”.

This nostalgic atmosphere is just wonderful! It has that classic Japanese kissaten (traditional coffee shop) vibe that I absolutely adore. There’s parking right in front of the shop, which makes things easy for visitors driving in.

Inside, there’s a mix of counter seating and table seats — perfect whether you’re flying solo or visiting with friends.

Along with the usual coffee and drink options, since I came in the morning, there was a special breakfast (“morning”) menu — a beloved Japanese cafe tradition you simply must try while in Kumamoto!

Set A (Western-style): 760 yen
Set B (Japanese-style): 760 yen
Set S (Western-style): 920 yen
With both Japanese and Western options on offer, you can pick the morning meal that suits your mood — a real treat!

Set S even comes with a fluffy omelet, making for an extra-luxurious breakfast experience.

There’s also a Hamburg Steak Course for 1,130 yen for those craving something heartier.

Dessert Plate: 500 yen

And just look at that dessert plate! With this much deliciousness packed into one dish,
500 yen is an absolute steal!

Recommended Menu

This time, I went with the
Set B for 760 yen — and what a great choice it was!

The Japanese-style rolled omelet (tamagoyaki) was juicy, savory, and bursting with that delicate dashi flavor I love so much. A perfect bite of Japan!

The simmered kiriboshi daikon (dried radish) was beautifully infused with flavor. Authentic Japanese home cooking at its finest — the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out.

The two fist-sized rice balls (onigiri) were just the right size — generous but not overwhelming. Wrapped in a big sheet of crisp nori seaweed, they were a real treat.

Inside one was okaka (savory bonito flakes), soaked into the rice for the most amazing umami flavor —
a treasure trove of umami!
Ah, pure bliss!

The other was filled with kombu (simmered kelp).
It’s like a parade of Japanese flavors — I just want to dance!

The freshly brewed black tea arrived right when I needed it — a soothing finish to a satisfying meal. A truly relaxing tea time.

This is Set A (760 yen), the Western-style option. It comes with thick toast, a fresh salad, and fluffy scrambled eggs.

The bread is thick-cut and incredibly satisfying!

That fluffy bread soaked in melted butter is heavenly. Even the crusts are delicious — every bite a delight!

This is the perfect spot for a little morning treat — a relaxing atmosphere that’s wonderfully calming for travelers and locals alike.
