Introducing Kohagien Park
Hello, travelers!
This is Asukarando, your Sarukuma writer.
Today I’m excited to introduce a wonderful spot located in Mitsugi, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Kohagien Park”.
Tucked away on Mt. Kinpo, Kohagien Park is a hidden retreat surrounded by lush nature \(^o^)/
There are two spacious parking lots (First and Second), so finding a spot is easy!
This is the entrance leading into Kohagien Park!
The pathways have a soft, cushioned surface, making them comfortable to walk on — and gentle on little ones if they happen to take a tumble.
Right from the entrance, you’ll spot a delightful variety of cherry blossom (sakura) trees (^^)
At the fork in the path, head right and you’ll find an observation deck!
There are stairs and a gentle slope, so reaching the top with a stroller or cart can be a bit tricky — but the distance is short, so carrying your gear up is totally manageable (*^^*)
Take the left path and you’ll arrive at the Forest Hall (Shinrinkan), where you’ll also find restrooms and vending machines.
Why You’ll Love Kohagien Park
During cherry blossom season, the scenery here is absolutely breathtaking. (Photo from last year.)
There’s a fantastic photo-op spot right here, too!
Here’s a shot from last year’s cherry blossom season~
Stunning, isn’t it?
You can spot a tent in the photo, but climbing up onto this tree branch for a snapshot makes for a truly Instagram-worthy moment (^o^)/
The slope below the observation deck is also perfect for some fun grass sledding (^-^)v
And here’s the view from the observation deck — a sweeping panorama of Kumamoto City! (^o^)/
Because Kohagien Park has both early- and late-blooming cherry trees, you can enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing) for an extended season — one of the park’s biggest charms! (^-^)v
Here are the late-blooming yaezakura (double-flowered cherry blossoms) (^-^)v
They’re also nicknamed “chochin-zakura” (lantern cherry blossoms) (*^^*)
The pink yaezakura are simply adorable, too~
Easily accessible from central Kumamoto City, Kohagien Park is a true hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing — highly recommended! (*^^*)
