“Genkido”—a delightful bakery that’s a must-visit for anyone exploring the Kumamoto countryside.

Brown Rice Walnut Bread — 100 yen

Brown Rice Bread — 100 yen

I just couldn’t resist the 100-yen corner—
that’s the savvy shopper instinct kicking in!

First up, the Choco Cornet—a classic spiral-shaped pastry filled with chocolate cream.
This is basically a non-negotiable purchase, isn’t it?

As always, it disappeared into my child’s stomach in seconds.

Loaded with rich chocolate!
I was a bit curious how my child would react to the brown rice base,
but they happily polished it off with delight.

Next, the simple Brown Rice Bread.
It’s a plain bread, but oh-so-tasty.
I was so absorbed in eating that I completely forgot to take a photo—my bad!

The dough was wonderfully chewy and mochi-like!
Who knew brown rice bread could be this delightfully chewy?!
The nutty, toasty aroma was simply irresistible ( *´艸`)

Brown Rice Walnut Bread

I’ve always thought brown rice and walnuts make a dream team.
I love walnut bread in general,
but this one was on a whole different level!

The crunchy, generous walnut chunks paired beautifully
with the chewy, mochi-like brown rice dough.
It’s seriously satisfying and worth every bite!

Healthy, affordable, and packed with thoughtful service—
that’s Genkido!

Be sure to stop by during your travels in Kumamoto—you won’t regret it!
