Introducing Cafe106 (Cafe Ichi-Maru-Roku)

Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m excited to introduce you to a charming spot in Miyuki Fueda, Minami-ku, Kumamoto City:
Cafe106 (Cafe Ichi-Maru-Roku).
\Newly opened on April 25, 2025/
A hidden-retreat vibe right along the East Bypass!?
A brand-new café where you can comfortably linger — even solo travelers will feel right at home!
Located right by the Ryutsu Danchi intersection, directly across from Miyuki Chuo Park.
If you’re coming from the Yume Town Hamasen side, the entrance is easy to spot along the road. From the Ryutsu Danchi side, however, you’ll need to make a U-turn since the café is on the opposite lane.
Look for the light blue flag waving outside — many locals have already noticed and thought, “Oh, a new café opened!” ♪

Just a heads up — the area at the back of the building belongs to an apartment complex.
Please don’t park beyond the spot marked “101.”
Here’s the inside! (^^)/
There are table seats, counter seats, and even cozy sofa seats.

And get this — power outlets, USB ports, and free Wi-Fi are all available!!
The owner says, “I’d love for guests to relax and spend their time here at ease.”
Children’s chairs are also available (^^)/
Perfect for a family-friendly lunch outing!
Outdoor terrace seating for takeout customers is also planned.
The interior is non-smoking, but there’s a designated smoking area outside the door (where the children’s chairs are kept).

Cafe106 (Cafe Ichi-Maru-Roku) Recommended Menu

Let’s start with the salad.
The dressing has a touch of wasabi, giving it a slight spicy kick.
Wasabi isn’t really my thing, so I ate around it without mixing it in! (lol)
The daily lunch on the day I visited was the Red Wine Bolognese ♪
Sometimes regular menu items are featured as the daily special, so it can feel like a real bonus ♡

The daily lunch and the signature 106 Homemade Hamburger Steak are said to be the most popular items! (^^)/
The pasta is a fettuccine-style noodle.
It has a wonderfully chewy, hearty texture!
The rich meat sauce clings to every strand — absolutely delicious ♪
A personal joy — the dish was generously topped with grated Parmesan!
A cheese lover’s dream come true.
I added on the mini parfait too ♡
They use fresh strawberries, so once strawberry season ends, the fruit will change with the season.
On top: grape ice cream, berry cake, crumble, and whipped cream.
So colorful that just looking at it puts a smile on your face ♪
As you dig deeper, you’ll find strawberry sauce and yogurt!
It’s sweet overall but with a refreshing finish — just right after a meal (*’ω’*)
The nutty crumble adds a delightful crunch and toasty aroma that pulls everything together beautifully.
And here’s the Peach Frappé.
Made with an original peach sauce that the owner perfected through many trial runs before opening — this is the café’s must-try signature drink!
Real peach pulp is hidden at the bottom — a one-of-a-kind drink you’ll only find here at Cafe106.
The pretty pale-pink topping? That’s sakura (cherry blossom) syrup!

The photo doesn’t quite capture it — but the cup is huge!
It’s roughly the same size as a Starbucks Frappuccino Grande, packed with goodness.

Ever had your kid drink up your whole frappé? With this generous size, there’s plenty for everyone to share. (lol)

About Cafe106 (Cafe Ichi-Maru-Roku)

I had the chance to chat with the owner, Iori-san!

Aikero
Aikero
Does the “106” in the café’s name have a special meaning?

Yes, I get asked that a lot! (lol)
In the old days, people in Japan used to communicate through pagers (“pokeberu”) by spelling out messages in numbers.
In that spirit, I encoded my name “Iori” as the number 106 and used it for the café name.
The 0 in the logo is colored to look like a latte — hinting at the café atmosphere.

What a lovely meaning behind the name!
The 0 in a different color is so cute and clever.
What inspired you to open this café?

Watching my father run a specialty pork shop in Kikuchi, I’d dreamed of having my own place since elementary school.
I went to a culinary high school, then trained at various restaurants while studying — and finally opened this café in April this year.
Today I’m here on my own, but normally we run the place with three people: me, my mom, and one staff member.

Congratulations on the opening!
It’s wonderful to hear how much you trained and prepared!
Was there a particular reason you chose this location?
First and foremost — having a parking lot. I really wanted families with kids to feel welcome, so a lot with more than just two or three spots was a must.
I also wanted to create a space that felt comfortable, so I was looking for a place with big open windows and lots of natural light. This location matched perfectly.
Being right along the East Bypass, customers say it’s super easy to find.

Parking really is so important! Especially when meeting friends with kids — everyone needs their own car.
The roadside flag also makes the café really easy to spot.
You mentioned the daily lunch and the 106 Homemade Hamburger Steak are popular — but what’s your personal favorite?

My personal pick…
It’s not a meal item, but I’d say the Berry Parfait and the Peach Frappé!
I tested many crumbles before settling on this one — I love its toasty nuttiness and crunchy texture.
The peach sauce in the frappé is original, and I built it around flavors I personally adore ♡
As the days get warmer, I hope guests will cool down with our frappés and refresh themselves with the yogurt-based berry parfait.

Online reviews praised the owner’s warm personality, and I have to agree — Iori-san is incredibly friendly and easy to talk to ♪
A kids’ menu is also planned for the future, making this an ideal spot for parent-and-child lunch dates! (^^)/
