Introducing TORIDORI Yakitori & Natural Wine
Hello travelers! This is Aikero, a writer for Sarukuma.
Today we’re heading to Suidocho in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City to visit
【TORIDORI Yakitori & Natural Wine】.
This is a sister restaurant to 【TORIDORI / Yakitori, Western Cuisine & Natural Wine】 on Oaks Street, which we featured on Sarukuma before.
Dinner there is incredibly delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful — definitely worth a visit too! ♫
Just a 2-minute walk from the Suidocho Intersection!
It’s right next to Park City Suidocho — turn at the Lawson Suidocho Kita-ten convenience store and you’ll arrive at the restaurant in seconds.
TORIDORI is known for its refined, stylish atmosphere.
The moment you step inside, the mood completely transforms.
There are table seats sized for various group numbers.
There’s also roomy seating perfect for larger groups.
In the back, you’ll find a private tatami room.
The dimmer lighting gives it a wonderful upscale feel!
Today we’re here for lunch, and the menu is wonderfully simple — only 2 options!
・Katsu Curry: 1,200 yen
・Organic Vegetable Spice Curry: 1,200 yen
Drink included (Oolong tea or iced coffee)
Even the menu keeps things minimal!
The katsu curry uses a different cut of chicken depending on the day!
TORIDORI Yakitori & Natural Wine — Recommended Menu
Here it is — the Organic Vegetable Spice Curry.
…It’s stunning!!
You can’t help but let out a little “wow” the moment it arrives.
It’s a guaranteed hit with women, but interestingly it’s also a favorite among male customers.
With so many veggies, it’s a great choice for anyone who’s mindful about their diet ♫
The plate is loaded with so many different toppings, you can’t even see them all from this angle (lol).
・Fried seasonal vegetables with yogurt sauce
・Boiled seasonal vegetables
・Ratatouille
・Glass noodle japchae
・Carrot rapée
・Pumpkin salad
・Onion achaar
・Ginger achaar
As the menu name suggests, every vegetable is organic, sourced from a wholesaler in Tasaki.
The selection changes with the seasons, which is another lovely touch!
By the way, achaar is an Indian-style pickle made with spices and vinegar.
First, let’s dive into the curry.
A fruity flavor balanced with a gentle spicy kick.
Even the sauce alone is incredibly delicious!
The chicken is meltingly tender — simmered for a full day until it falls apart at the touch of a fork.
Just look at how thick that fried eggplant is!!
The yogurt sauce is light and refreshing — a perfect match for both the curry and the eggplant!
This is the onion achaar.
Tangy and seasoned with curry-like spices.
It’s a flavor that pairs beautifully with curry — be sure to try them together! ♪
And the ginger achaar.
Bold ginger flavor and aroma with a soft hint of shiso (perilla leaf).
The combination of tang and ginger heat is seriously addictive!
For me, eating curry together with the ginger achaar was the absolute winning combo — each flavor brings out the best in the other ♪
The ratatouille — with its tangy tomato and rich vegetable flavors — could easily be a side dish all on its own!
But eat it together with the curry, and the spicy kick mellows out beautifully into a whole new flavor!
If you find the curry a little too spicy, try mixing in some ratatouille or pumpkin salad ♪
The portion of rice is generous, so you’ll leave thoroughly satisfied (●^o^●)
It’s so delicious you won’t get tired of it, and there’s real fun in discovering your favorite flavor combinations — I want to come back already!!
Near the entrance, you’ll also find takeaway bento boxes for sale.
・Fried Horse Mackerel (Aji Fry) Bento
・Daily Special Bento
And the price? Just 600 yen!
The horse mackerel, like the vegetables, is sourced from the Tasaki wholesaler.
Inspired by classic “nori-ben,” the bento comes packed with macaroni salad, pickles, ham cutlets, isobe-age (seaweed-wrapped fried fish cake), and even mentaiko (spicy pollock roe)!
The owner laughed and said, “Honestly, at this price…” — what a steal!
Definitely a must-buy, everyone!!
Moms, why not enjoy lunch here and grab a bento to take home for dinner? ♪
Here’s the daily special bento.
On the day of our visit, it was a soboro (seasoned ground meat) bento!
Other days, it might be karaage (Japanese fried chicken) or salt-grilled mackerel ♪
I was already full from the curry, so I let my daughter and husband try this one ♫
It has a satisfying, well-seasoned flavor with plenty of volume — even men will leave content.
The food at TORIDORI Yakitori & Natural Wine is genuinely delicious, so 600 yen for a bento this generous is an absolute steal!
The curry lunch at TORIDORI Yakitori & Natural Wine launched in October.
If you’re craving curry in Chuo Ward, this is the place to go!
It’s just a short walk from the Shimotori and Kamitori shopping arcades, so it’s well worth a quick detour while you’re exploring the city center!
Highly recommended (●^o^●)
