Welcome to Foresto
Hello, travelers!
This is “Gussan,” your Sarukuma writer.
Today I’m introducing Foresto, located in Sunabaru-machi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City.
【Foresto】
I don’t usually venture out to the southern part of the city for lunch, but I’d been hearing buzz about this trendy spot — so I had to check it out for myself.
Good to know: Foresto doesn’t take lunch reservations (dinner is reservation-only).
After the 11:00 a.m. opening, it’s first-come, first-served — but you can reserve a table for 1:00 p.m. or later.
We arrived for our 1:00 p.m. reservation and the parking lot was already completely full!
Driving from central Kumamoto City toward Kumamoto Port, you’ll spot Foresto on your right.
※ Heading from the city center, you may need to make a U-turn.
During busy periods, tables have a 90-minute time limit.
Foresto has 15 parking spaces, but it fills up quickly — carpooling is highly recommended if you’re coming with a group.
Step inside and you’ll find a beautiful sun-filled interior.
There are baby beds and high chairs available too.
In the back, there’s a raised tatami area…
There are no dividers, but the seating feels almost like semi-private booths.
The floor is flat throughout — perfect for visiting with little ones in tow!
Lush greenery fills the interior, and through the windows you can also enjoy views of the central garden.
It’s stylish, calming, and incredibly relaxing — the kind of space where you’ll want to linger.
The high chairs don’t have safety belts, so for very young babies, the raised tatami seating is the safer, more comfortable option for dining.
In addition to table and tatami seats, there’s also a stylish counter — perfect for solo diners.

The restroom is equipped with a diaper-changing table — a thoughtful touch for visiting families.
Foresto’s Recommended Menu
Here’s Foresto’s menu.
Choose a main dish and it comes with salad, soup, rice or bread, and a small side dish.
For an extra ¥150, you can add a drink to your meal.
Mains range from ¥1,780 to ¥2,880, including steak, hamburg steak, and curry. There’s also a kids’ lunch (¥850).
For dessert, try the rich gateau chocolat (¥850) or fluffy chiffon cake (¥750).
For an extra ¥300, you can pair any dessert (except vanilla) with your choice of soft drink.
I ordered the Prime Beef Misuji Steak (¥1,980).
With the soup and side dishes plus those gorgeous ceramic dishes, I couldn’t even fit it all in one photo (laughs).
My meal came with simmered hijiki seaweed with lotus root and beans, chawanmushi (savory egg custard), and zenzai (sweet red bean soup).
The salad vegetables were super fresh.
And here’s the Prime Beef Misuji Steak in all its glory.
The garlic aroma was absolutely mouthwatering — I could barely wait to dig in! (laughs)
Tender, juicy steak goodness ♡
For your rice, you can choose between white rice or 25-grain rice.
I went straight for the 25-grain — chewy, nutty, and absolutely delicious.
Now let me show you what my friends ordered.
Slow-Simmered Beef Stew (¥2,080)
Look at those generous chunks of beef — pure comfort food!
White Fish Meunière with Tomato Sauce (¥1,980)
Beautifully colorful, and you can practically hear the crispy skin through the photo.
Japanese-Style Hamburg Steak with House Sauce (¥1,880)
Topped with grated daikon radish and shiso leaf for a refreshing twist on the classic.
These are the homemade bread rolls.
Each order comes with two pieces.
The homemade bread looked wonderfully soft and fluffy too!

We finished the meal with a relaxing cup of coffee.
With its spacious, welcoming atmosphere and delicious cuisine, Foresto is the kind of restaurant where you’ll find yourself lingering longer than planned.
