Today I want to introduce one of Kumamoto’s most exciting food trucks — one that just keeps reinventing itself!
Meet Okkun Garden!

Look for the signature light-blue striped pop-up tent — that’s how you’ll spot Okkun Garden!

They pop up at events all over Kumamoto Prefecture, and they’re known mainly as a bagel shop — at least, that’s the starting point (haha)!
Every time I visit, the menu has changed — pasta, hot dogs, drinks, sweets… you name it.

Their home base is in Yuge, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City.
Once a month, on the third Wednesday, they host a weekday marché called “Okkun Garden Plus” right at their own home!
A hand-picked lineup of food trucks and handmade-craft artists gather there, and you can really feel how much fun everyone’s having ✨

“Okkun Garden Plus” takes place on a wonderfully spacious private property that the family opens up for the event!
There’s parking available too.
And yes — you can use the restroom inside Okkun’s home, which is a lifesaver when you’re traveling with kids.

The kids go wild for the handmade hammocks and swings that Papa Okkun built himself! (haha)
Depending on the season, you can even try bamboo-shoot picking or plum picking!
The vegetables grown in Okkun’s own garden end up tucked inside their bagels and hot dogs 💛

Pesticide-free and freshly harvested that very morning — there’s no way it could be anything but delicious 🍃

Must-Try Menu Items at Okkun Garden

Here’s the menu I saw on my visit, but keep in mind it changes with the seasons ✨

Bagels and hot dogs are the staples, but the varieties rotate every time ♪
The final cooking happens inside the food truck itself, so everything is served piping hot and fresh!
Aosa-Scented Green Cream Pasta — ¥900
The pasta is cooked to absolute perfection. Honestly, getting a hot, creamy soup-pasta out of a food truck is mind-blowing!

For serious meat lovers: the Pastrami Beef bagel — ¥650
For a lighter option: the Salmon & Cream Cheese bagel — ¥700
Both are absolutely loaded with generous fillings ✨
