Welcome to ROK
Hello travelers! It’s Gachako, your local writer at Sarukuma.
Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to ROK, a charming pantry located in Fujita, Nagomi Town, Tamana District.
Housed in a beautifully renovated traditional home, the space feels naturally calming the moment you step inside.

ROK opened its doors on March 21, 2023.
The owner previously ran a beloved restaurant in central Kumamoto City. I had the lucky chance to sit next to her at a cooking class, where she shared her plans for this new venture — and I’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening ever since!

ROK sits just past a quiet residential neighborhood near Kikusui Interchange, right next to a peaceful bamboo grove.
The parking area is a tidy gravel lot — easy to find and well maintained.

The building in the foreground is ROK.
The one behind it is still under construction — what could it become? I can’t wait to find out!

ROK is a pantry that celebrates ingredients which nourish both body and soul — organic Kyushu-grown wheat, natural sea salt, and rice-based natural yeast.
It’s a place where both children and adults can eat with complete peace of mind.
As a true pantry, the star of the show is bread.
Doughnuts, bagels, and brioche are also crowd favorites.
I arrived in the early afternoon, so the selection was already getting low — but here’s a peek at the menu.

・Brioche … 250 yen
・Scones … Plain 200 yen, Chocolate 250 yen

Brown Sugar Walnut Bagel … 300 yen

・Chocolate Bagel … 300 yen
・Raisin Bagel … 300 yen
You’ll also find mountain-shaped pain de mie, square loaf bread, and a variety of doughnuts.
The daily lineup is updated on their Instagram Stories, and you can even reserve items by phone.
They also serve coffee using beans from Coffee Hanasaka, a renowned roaster in Fukuoka.
Whether you pair your coffee with bread or a doughnut, you’re in for a treat!
ROK Recommended Menu

I ordered the coffee, chocolate bagel, brioche, and a scone.
That little card in the front? It’s the point card everyone loves. The design is absolutely adorable!

I enjoyed the bagel right in the parking lot, gazing out at the bamboo grove.
Just look at that gloriously chewy body!
The wheat flavor is rich and deep — every bite reveals more umami.
It would be incredible re-toasted, too.
And it paired perfectly with my takeout coffee. ☆
Next time, I’m coming back for the doughnuts! Be sure to add ROK to your Kumamoto travel list.
