Today I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem located in Nagamine-nishi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City:
[Cucina DADA].
Just a stone’s throw from “Schroar Mall Nagamine,” this charming spot specializes in pasta and panini.

A friend had told me, “If you want truly exquisite pasta, head to Cucina DADA,” so I had been eagerly looking forward to this visit.The adorable blue exterior is hard to miss.
There are 4 parking spots in front of the restaurant. Since this place is popular, carpooling is recommended during busy hours.
Inside, you’ll find cozy sofa seating where you can relax,
stylish counter seats,
and spacious sofa areas perfect for multi-generational family gatherings — even grandparents can dine in comfort,
plus a roomy private space ideal for lunch with friends.

Cucina DADA’s Must-Try Menu

Cucina DADA’s number one bestseller is this signature Bolognese.
While the menu rotates monthly, the Bolognese is a year-round staple you can enjoy any season.

Pasta and panini are only available as set menus — not à la carte.
Courses A, B, and C come with different combinations of antipasto platters and dolce, so pick what suits your appetite.
Here’s the menu from when I visited (April 2022).
Both pasta and panini menus change every month, so no matter how often you visit, it never gets boring!
Cucina DADA is also open for dinner, so here’s their evening menu for reference.

“Wait, isn’t that antipasto platter way too gorgeous?”
Gazing enviously at my friend’s lavish appetizer plate, I could already feel the breeze of Rome blowing through.
(Not that I actually know what a Roman breeze feels like.)
Now, let me show you the pasta dishes my friend and I ordered.
Here it is! The legendary “Bolognese” — once you try it, you’ll crave it again and again.
(I upgraded to a large portion for an extra 150 yen)
My friend’s choice: “Mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and Mekabu Pasta with Shredded Salt Nori and Shiso“
Another from my friend: “Polpetta and New Burdock Root Pasta with Tomato and Browned Butter Double Sauce“
And mine: “Firefly Squid and Asparagus Pasta with Fresh Tomato“
Just look at it! Firefly squid scattered everywhere — my excitement was through the roof!
It was my first time having firefly squid pasta, and the gentle saltiness of the squid added the perfect accent!
The asparagus had a wonderful crunch too! Such a happy moment, savoring this carefully crafted taste of Japanese spring ♫
The focaccia was crispy on the outside and gloriously fluffy and chewy inside — gone in seconds!
For dolce, we each picked something different:
“DADA’s Classic Tiramisu“
“Strawberry Macedonia with Panna Cotta“
“Rich Italian Pudding“
The “Rich Italian Pudding” I chose featured slightly bitter caramel paired with a dense, sweet pudding that simply melted in my mouth — pure bliss.
