If you asked me to name my favorite food, hamburg steak would be the answer every time.
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma!

Today I’m taking you to a fantastic spot located in Kengun-Honmachi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, called “Kumamoto Umaniku Kushi Dojo Kimiya”.

Kimiya opened on August 8th.
You can park your car right in front of the restaurant—super convenient for visitors driving around Kumamoto.

The neighborhood is packed with other great stops too: Ichinen, Kona’s Coffee, Flat Cafe, and Shoryuken are all just a short walk away ♪

Inside, you’ll find traditional Japanese tatami (zashiki) seating with partitions for privacy, plus counter seats.
The tatami area makes it especially welcoming for families with small children—a real plus for traveling parents.

Here’s the lunch menu, served 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM.

Free extra-large rice portions and rice refills for just 100 yen—I can’t have been the only one tempted!
Best of all, there’s something for everyone, from kids to adults.

The drink selection is impressively wide too.

They even offer assorted hors d’oeuvre platters—perfect if you’re staying somewhere with friends or family and want to share a feast.

Tip: call ahead to reserve your takeout for a smooth, quick pickup.

Obanzai (traditional Kyoto-style home-cooked side dishes) takeout is also available.
Being able to take home individual à la carte sides is such a lifesaver for busy households.
There are hearty mains on offer too, so why not give them a try?♪

Pizza, teppanyaki, and noodles are all available for takeout too.
The menu is so varied that you could enjoy something different every night without ever getting bored.

Kumamoto Umaniku Kushi Dojo Kimiya: My Recommended Menu Pick

This time, I went with the
Hamburg Steak Bento (500 yen)
as takeout!

And honestly, when I opened the box, I was floored…

Can you believe the quality of this 500-yen hamburg steak bento?

I instantly regretted not staying to dine in!

Just look at that thick, generous hamburg steak.
It’s the kind of indulgence that makes hamburg steak lovers go weak at the knees.

Time to dig in with the chopsticks.

The meat is so tender it practically melts—juicy, fluffy, and impossibly satisfying.
I forgot to chew and just kept devouring it.

The seasoning is spot-on and pairs perfectly with white rice.
I could honestly eat this forever…!

And the sides? Equally impressive.

Hearty, satisfying chunks of potato.

Then there’s the tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelette)—a nostalgic flavor that takes me right back to my school lunch days.
It’s basically a second main dish in disguise.

And don’t miss this one.

Beautifully simmered eggplant, soaked through with savory flavor.

Forget side dishes—everything here tastes like a main event.
That’s what I want to shout from the rooftops. Every single bite was a hit. This bento is a treasure box of flavor.
