Welcome to Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land

Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Asukarando, your Sarukuma writer.

Today I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem located in Naka, Oyano-machi, Kamiamakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land”

Spring is clam-digging season in Japan! My family had an absolute blast trying it out, so I’m sharing all about Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land here (⌒0⌒)/~~

First stop: the parking lot for Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land!

Look — there’s a flag waiting in the parking lot (^-^)

Wave this flag toward the island in the distance (Gonbei Island), and…

A boat comes to pick you up!

Time to hop aboard! The boat is reached by stairs, so make sure to hold your child’s hand for safety.

The sea breeze feels amazing! (^-^)

My son, who’s convinced sharks lurk in every ocean, was a little nervous…

The boat ride is over in a flash! (^з^)-☆

We’ve arrived at Gonbei Island, home to Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land!

Here’s the reception area (*^^*)

Here’s the fishing pond area!

Since the pricing is per rod, you can share one rod between parent and child, which is a great deal! (^^)

Bait is also available for purchase. And don’t worry — even if you don’t catch anything, you’ll still get a fish to take home as a souvenir! (^-^)v

Here’s the BBQ area!

You can bring your own food at no extra charge.

It’s a wonderfully affordable leisure spot for the whole family.

There’s a vending machine on-site, so you don’t have to worry about running out of drinks (^-^)

Bonus: Gonbei Island is home to lots of friendly cats waiting to greet you! >^_^<

Why We Recommend Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land

This time, we tried clam digging — and it was incredible! \(^o^)/

Check the Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land website to see low-tide times and clam-digging hours before your visit!

The clam-digging season runs through June (^-^)v

All the clam-digging tools are available to borrow free of charge!

You can show up empty-handed and still have a great time — perfect for traveling families! (^-^)v

And here’s the clam-digging area! \(^o^)/

Let’s get started!

The moment you start digging, you can feel the clams (asari) right under your fingertips!

Whoa! Three clams at once!

And there’s another one in the back! Can you spot it?

The clams just keep coming! (^-^)v

Even kids find it super easy and fun!

After a while, my son ditched the clams and started catching crabs instead (^^;

The clam-digging area is enclosed, so kids have a safe space to explore. Still, parents should keep an eye on little ones — it’s easy to get carried away digging!
The staff also keeps a friendly watch on guests (^-^)

Look at this haul — and that was in no time at all! (^-^)v

Once you’re done, the staff weighs your clams, you pay, and you’re all set! (^з^)-☆

Pro tip: Bring a cooler box so you can carry your clams home with seawater (helps them stay fresh).
Forgot one? No problem — Styrofoam containers are available for purchase (400 yen) (^з^)-☆

Time to hop back on the boat and wave goodbye to Gonbei Island! (^з^)-☆

Easy enough for kids and a hit with the whole family — clam digging at Amakusa Tsuribori Leisure Land is a must-try Kumamoto experience! (⌒0⌒)/~~
