Today I’m taking you to Eda, Nagomi Town, Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture, to visit “Higo Minka-mura” — a charming open-air museum of old Japanese folk houses.
Higo Minka-mura sits right next door to the “Higo Ancient Forest Park” — and today’s spotlight is on the village itself!
This is the entrance to Higo Minka-mura (^-^)/
The parking lot is shared with the neighboring Higo Ancient Forest Park, so it’s easy to combine both stops in one visit.
Free admission!
Open: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Closed: every Monday
A vending machine is conveniently located right next to the entrance (^-^)
Restrooms are right inside the entrance of Higo Minka-mura.
There’s a second restroom further inside the park as well.

Bringing a bento (Japanese-style packed lunch) to enjoy here is absolutely a great idea (^з^)-☆
There’s also a “Stone Stage” and an open play area where kids can run and explore \(^o^)/

This is a true open-air museum, where historic buildings have been carefully preserved exactly as they once stood!
Right at the entrance building, you’ll find a restaurant called “Wasantaranka.”
Surprise — they serve Sri Lankan and Mexican cuisine!
