I’m Binako, a writer for SaruKuma, your friendly local guide to all things Kumamoto!

Today, I’m taking you to a hidden gem located in Minamitakae, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Mochikaeri & Takoyaki Ganbare Takoyaki no Ittendo” — a takeout takoyaki shop that’s stealing hearts (and stomachs) all over town.

Let me say this upfront —
the owner here is INCREDIBLY kind!!!
I’m five seconds from falling in love
with how warm and welcoming he is!

The cute octopus illustration and the words “Rich Salt Butter” had me hooked from the start!

The parking area is located behind the shop.

Parking spots #1 and #2 are reserved for customers — easy to find!

Classic takoyaki and “sunazuri-yaki” (chicken gizzard takoyaki)?! Now THAT’S an intriguing twist worth trying!

Now let’s talk menu!

You can choose from 8-piece, 10-piece, or 12-piece servings, with prices ranging from a wallet-friendly 600 to 800 yen!

And the flavor selection? Mind-blowing for a takoyaki shop:
Loaded Corn Mayo
Salt Garlic Butter
Salt Butter
Rich Cream Cheese
Mentaiko (Spicy Cod Roe) Mayonnaise
Who knew takoyaki could come in this many delicious varieties?! My excitement was through the roof!

So many tempting choices — how do you even pick?!
If you can’t decide between flavors,
this is the perfect solution!

They offer Recommended Half-and-Half sets!
Choose from sets A, B, or C — each with different flavor combinations!

Since this was my first visit,
the owner kindly recommended the standard starter:
Recommended Half Set Ⓐ
1. Umami Salt × Rich Sweet Sauce — let’s go!!

When I mentioned I was also curious about the salt butter,
the owner said “I’ll add a little butter on top for you!”
Such kindness — I was beyond grateful!!!

And here come the takoyaki — drumroll please!

Wow wow wow!

This looks AMAZING!

And here’s the salt butter takoyaki in all its glory!

The savory salt and rich butter
create an explosion of flavor that’s pure happiness in every bite.

Plus, the takoyaki balls are seriously generous in size!

Next up, the sweet sauce variety!

The rich, sweet sauce instantly puts a smile on your face!
It’s generously topped with aonori (green seaweed flakes),
and the slightly sweet batter pairs perfectly with the sweet sauce —
a match made in takoyaki heaven!

I HIGHLY recommend giving this a try.
The Recommended Half-and-Half is the way to go!!
