Introducing Otsuyama Park
Hello there!
This is Igaguri, your SaruKuma writer!
Today I’m taking you to Otsuyama Park, located in Sekito, Nankan Town, Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Yes! There’s a vending machine on site!

The parking lot is nice and spacious!
(Although it can fill up during cherry blossom season, so plan ahead.)

Beyond the wide-open grounds, you’ll see the restrooms.

It looks like the toilets are unisex.

Right next door is the B&G Nankan Marine Center.

I spotted a swimming pool!
Oops — let’s get back to the park.

That’s the parking lot from earlier in the background.
Just across the road, you’ll find Tokusanhin Center Nankan Ikiiki Mura, a local specialty product center.

Much like a roadside station (michi-no-eki), it stocks bento boxes, breads, and sweets — perfect for picking up snacks and supplies before heading into the park (^^♪
(Since it’s across the road, walking from the park itself can be a bit tricky.)

Ikiiki Mura also has restrooms equipped with a baby changing table.

There’s also a dining area and a rest space (with a kids’ corner).

Okay, back to the park (for real this time)!
What Makes Otsuyama Park Special

Whoa — what a long slide!!
The moment my kids saw it, they took off running.
Their parents, of course, sprinted after them.
And those trees? They’re cherry blossom trees!
Imagine your kids zooming down the slide with cherry blossoms in full bloom around them
It’s the perfect spot for that magical photo ☺

Watch your step on the way up!

Here’s the view from the top.
The slide has a midway landing point — a thoughtful design that makes it easier and safer for younger children.

The slope is just right — fast but not scary!

Once you reach the top, you realize…
the slide is shaped like a giant serpent!

The slide is genuinely fast, so I’d recommend bringing a sliding mat or piece of cardboard.
My bottom was sore after just two rides…

Right next to the top of the slide there’s a hand-washing area.

You’ll also find covered benches for shade.

Climb to the top and you’ll discover plenty of room to lay down a picnic sheet or pitch a small tent ☆

The view from up here is wonderful.

There’s even an athletic playground area.
