📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A Sarukuma writer visits the “Aqua Dome Kumamoto Play Plaza” in Araoshi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City and shares a first-hand report. Family-friendly highlights, access info, and opening hours are all included.

Hello, travelers!
I’m Ayu-Mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”

Today I’d love to introduce you to
[Aqua Dome Kumamoto Play Plaza],
located in Araoshi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City.
Aqua Dome Kumamoto is a facility known for its indoor swimming pool.
The pool is open year-round, and in winter it transforms into an ice skating rink!

The outdoor area has a wonderful plaza that visitors of all ages can enjoy —
so let me show you around!

Here’s the area we’ll be exploring on the facility map.
The parking lot.
It can get busy when swim meets are happening,
but there’s plenty of room for many cars on a regular day.
The restrooms in front of the Play Plaza.
There are vending machines right next to them too — super convenient!

The accessible restroom had a diaper-changing icon on the door,
but there was no actual changing table inside.

If you need a diaper-changing table, I recommend using the restrooms inside the main facility!

There are urinals for little boys, too!

What we loved about it

Welcome to the Play Plaza.
It’s HUGE!!!
A beautiful, perfectly manicured lawn stretches as far as the eye can see!

People were enjoying picnic lunches,
tossing frisbees, playing badminton, and just relaxing in their own way — everyone looked so content. ⭐︎
Once unleashed onto this enormous field, my son vanished from sight at the speed of light…
He was shouting things like “First Form!” and “Water Breathing!” as he ran (Demon Slayer fans will get the reference),
so I assume he was off to slay some demons.

The Play Plaza rules (please give them a quick read).
There’s a striking large monument…
and outdoor exercise equipment for adults too.
Several benches are scattered throughout the area.
There’s even a traditional Japanese gazebo (azumaya) for a shady break.
Beautiful flowers were blooming all around,

and the autumn foliage was at its absolute peak during our visit!
Right next to it is a multi-purpose plaza.
The perimeter doubles as a jogging course, and we saw plenty of locals out for a run!

And here’s the Water Terrace.
Normally, water flows here and it becomes a summer splash spot for kids,
but as you can imagine, this past summer was a different story.

On a sunny day, why not spend a relaxing afternoon at the Play Plaza
with your family or friends?
