2020.09.01

A Sarukuma writer visits “Yoshie-chan Takoyaki” in Nishihara Village, Aso District, and shares a firsthand report. We cover family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.
Hello, travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”
Here’s a quick question: don’t kids just love takoyaki (Japanese octopus balls)?
My son is absolutely crazy about them!
Today, I’m excited to introduce you to Nishihara Village in Aso District‘s very own
[Takoyaki Yoshie-chan].
Driving along Route 206 toward Aso, you’ll spot the shop on your right.
Just look for the bright red and yellow signboard!
There are several parking spaces right in front of the shop.
Here’s what the storefront looks like!
A charming sign with a cute octopus illustration welcomes you!
Here are the opening hours!
They stay open until 6:00 PM.
That means you can grab some on the way home as a perfect evening snack to pair with drinks. How great is that?
Dining inside isn’t allowed, but you can wait indoors while your order is prepared.
There’s even a water dispenser available!
A restroom is available inside the shop as well.
Plenty of friendly staff were on hand,
busily grilling up batch after batch of takoyaki!
Cooking takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
They’ll hand you a buzzer that alerts you when your order is ready,
so you can comfortably wait in your car or outside — perfect for keeping social distance!
There are tables and chairs outside where you can enjoy your takoyaki on the spot,
so we decided to dig into ours fresh off the grill!
The retro Coca-Cola tables and chairs add such a fun, nostalgic vibe!
There’s a vending machine too!
Nishihara Village’s premium gift coupons are also accepted here!
Recommended Menu
Here’s the menu!
There’s a wide variety of flavors to choose from.
Every option is priced at ¥600 (tax included).
This time, we ordered the classic ‘Sauce Takoyaki’.
It comes with 8 generously sized takoyaki balls.
Personally, I had my eye on the green onion ponzu takoyaki,
but my son insisted on the classic sauce flavor.
Just look at this!
Can you see how irresistibly crispy they look?
Yes — this is the legendary ‘crispy outside, creamy inside’ style takoyaki!
My takoyaki-loving son was practically inhaling them.
A kind staff member even brought us an extra boat-shaped plate so I could share with him.
Such a thoughtful gesture!
If you’re a fan of crispy takoyaki,
this place is an absolute must-try!
We visited around lunchtime on a weekend,
and customers were arriving non-stop the entire time.
Phone reservations are available too.
If you’re short on time, calling ahead will make your visit much smoother!
Heading toward Aso? Why not stop by for a delicious snack to enjoy on your scenic drive?
