Introducing Udon no Taichi

Hello, travelers! This is Mido, a writer for [SaruKuma].

Today I’m excited to share a hidden gem in Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District:
[Udon no Taichi].

This is the second location of the popular izakaya “Katsugyo Taichi,” tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood of Kikuyo Town!
There are 8 parking spaces in front of the shop, and the colorful banner flags make it easy to spot!
Opening hours are 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
When I arrived around 12:30 PM, the place was already buzzing with happy customers!Let’s head inside!

The interior is bright, brand new, and spotlessly clean.
All seating is at the counter β€” perfect for solo diners or watching the chefs at work.
(I luckily managed this photo during a brief moment when the shop was empty besides us!)

Here’s the menu!

This menu photo is current as of late March.

For hot summer days, there’s a refreshing “Wakame Bukkake Udon” (chilled udon with seaweed),
plus hearty options like the “Hormone Set” and “Curry Set” too!

And don’t miss the giant-sized “Wasshoi Wagyu Beef Udon” β€”
available in (Medium) 3 noodle portions and (Large) 5 noodle portions!
A dream come true for anyone wanting to fill up on truly delicious udon!
The rice dish selection is impressive too!
Don’t just stick to udon β€” these sides are worth a look!
The udon at [Udon no Taichi] is crafted with serious attention to detail!
The noodles are an exclusive recipe made by Fuki Seimenjo, and the dashi broth is handcrafted in-house, packed with deep umami flavor.
The rice comes from the famous terraced rice paddies of Takamori.
Even the toppings are top-tier β€” wakame seaweed sourced from Tokushima Prefecture, and oversized premium kitsune (fried tofu) pieces!
Onigiri (rice balls) are also available for takeout β€” perfect for a picnic or train ride. Children’s tableware and cutlery are available too β€” great news for families traveling with kids!

There’s also a restroom located right next to the shop.

I went with the ‘Wagyu Beef & Burdock Tempura Udon,’ my son chose ‘Kake Udon’ (classic udon in broth), and my daughter picked ‘Wakame Udon’!
My son’s eyes lit up the moment his ‘Kake Udon’ arrived β€” “It looks SO good!”
The ‘Wakame Udon’ came generously piled with Tokushima-grown seaweed!
My seaweed-loving daughter was beyond thrilled β™ͺ

Itadakimasu! (Let’s eat!)
There’s something fun about eating side-by-side at a counter β™ͺ My son devoured his bowl in no time!
“I want more!” he declared, then proceeded to share his sister’s udon too.

My daughter was equally absorbed, slurping up noodles and seaweed with pure joy!
And here’s my ‘Wagyu Beef & Burdock Tempura Udon’ β€” packed with delicious toppings β™ͺ
The sweet-savory wagyu beef paired with the udon noodles is heavenly!

The burdock tempura is incredible! It pairs perfectly with the udon!!
From the very first bite to the last, every single mouthful was absolutely delicious.

On the way home,
“The dashi flavor was so rich and tasty! The noodles were amazing too! I want to come back!” my kids said.
