Narcissist Hill: A Breathtaking Scenic Spot in Nishi Ward, Kumamoto City
2017.06.17

A Sarukuma writer visits “Narcissist Hill” in person and reports back. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
Today we’re heading to Kawachi in the Nishi Ward of Kumamoto City to check out
“Narcissist Hill”!
The story behind the quirky name?
Apparently, when you sit on the bench
and gaze out at the view,
you can’t help but become lost in self-admiration β
the name really is that literal!
But the scenery truly is stunning.
The sunset and nighttime cityscape
are especially gorgeous!
The hill is popular as a bridal photo spot,
and it’s also used as a rest stop
by motorcyclists looking to take a safety break.
It’s a wonderful place for a couple’s drive date, too!
On a clear day, you can even see Mount Unzen in Nagasaki across the bay.
Come experience one of Kumamoto’s most spectacular views!
Access
Located right along Prefectural Route 1.
It sits in a wide, open spot,
so you’ll spot it easily!
There’s a small parking area available,
but space is limited,
so please be considerate of others when parking!
And of course, take all your trash with you when you leave!
There’s also a stylish renovated traditional house cafΓ© nearby
that makes a perfect date stop β
highly recommended!
