Shin-Yatsushiro Station Gamesan Park (Nagata-machi, Yatsushiro): Free Parking & Big Playground — A Perfect Family Stop in Yatsushiro!
2026.03.09

A SaruKuma writer visits “Shin-Yatsushiro Station Gamesan Park” in Nagata-machi, Yatsushiro, and shares a firsthand report. We’ve also gathered family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
Introducing Shin-Yatsushiro Station Gamesan Park
Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for SaruKuma — the kind of person who goes to bed early but still can’t get up in the morning.
Today I’m introducing a wonderful park located in Nagata-machi, Yatsushiro City:
【Shin-Yatsushiro Station Gamesan Park】
This expansive park sits right in front of Shin-Yatsushiro Station, making it perfect for travelers exploring Kumamoto by train! Kids will love the large play structure and the exciting tunnel slide. There are also smaller play items for little ones plus fitness equipment for adults — so the whole family can enjoy moving and playing together. Free parking is available too, so it’s also easy to reach by car. If your timing is right, you can even spot the Shinkansen bullet train zooming past!
This park has previously been featured on SaruKuma (^^)/
As you can see on the map, there are two parking areas, both completely free to use! When I visited it was nearly empty, but if both lots fill up, there’s also a coin-operated paid parking nearby.
This is the parking lot on the left side of the map. It’s just a little far from the playground.
And here’s the parking lot on the right side of the map. We approached from the back center of the photo (passing the first parking lot), and the parking sign was actually hidden behind a tree, so we drove right past it once. Oops! 😄
The first parking lot looks like it has more spaces overall.
Right across from the two free lots, you’ll also find a coin-operated parking option as a backup.
This eye-catching rest area is designed to look like the “Kasaboko” decorative float of the Yatsushiro Myoken Festival — a celebration registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The park’s name “Gamesan” comes from “Game,” the affectionate nickname for the “Kida” (亀蛇), a mythical creature combining a snake and a turtle that features in the festival.
The wide open lawn was bustling with people playing ball games and even flying kites! There’s hardly any shade, though, so it might be a bit tough during the hot summer months.
Besides the rest area, you’ll also find several picnic tables with benches scattered around.
And this looks like a small stage — perfect for events!
There’s even a dedicated jogging track for those who want to get some exercise.
Vending machines are conveniently located right next to the restrooms, with a good variety of drinks — and even ice cream!
The multipurpose restroom is ostomate-friendly and includes both a diaper changing station and a changing platform — super convenient for families.
Near the restrooms, you’ll also find an outdoor fitness equipment area for adults.
And lucky us — we even caught the Shinkansen passing by! ♪ Train lovers will be absolutely thrilled here!
Why You’ll Love Shin-Yatsushiro Station Gamesan Park

The huge combination play structure offers all sorts of fun activities!
There’s an amazing variety of slides! This wide one lets a parent and child slide down side-by-side together.
And here’s the slightly thrilling tunnel slide!
There are also smaller slides perfect for toddlers — see if you can spot them all! ♪
There’s a balance beam that feels like tightrope walking, and
a megaphone-shaped speaking tube too!
And here’s the back side. The whole structure connects together, but you never know exactly where you’ll come out — it’s like a fun maze! Just keep in mind it’s easy to lose track of little ones, so I’d recommend exploring together with younger children for safety.
For toddlers, there are also spring-rider toys and
small toddler-sized swings.
There’s even a Tarzan rope (zip line), so children up to early elementary school age will have plenty to keep them entertained.
Whether you visit by car or by train, this park is the perfect destination! ♪ Yatsushiro has several spacious parks with large play structures, so a full-day park-hopping adventure is highly recommended! After visiting here, I actually went to two more parks the same day, and the kids absolutely loved it (*’ω’*) Spending a day playing wholeheartedly with your children always creates wonderful memories for everyone. With the weather getting more pleasant outside, now is the perfect season for park outings! (^^)/
