Today I’m excited to introduce you to MOMO’S HOUSE, a charming little bakery located in Waifu, Kikuchi City — a wonderful detour for anyone exploring rural Kumamoto.

MOMO’S HOUSE opened last autumn, and the shop’s stylish logo immediately catches your eye ✨ This cozy spot specializes in handcrafted baked goods — the kind of homey, lovingly made treats that are perfect for travelers wanting an authentic taste of small-town Japan.

Each week brings something special: freshly baked tarts on Wednesdays, and beautiful cakes on Fridays and Saturdays. I’d been dreaming about those tarts, so I made sure to drop by on a Wednesday 👨

The Banana Pound Cake (190 yen / 205 yen incl. tax) is the bestseller — and for good reason ♪

I visited just after White Day (a Japanese gift-giving holiday in March), so a few items were already sold out.
The back of the shop is dedicated to gift sets ♪
It was actually my first time seeing a sweets bouquet — what a creative idea! 👀

The gift selection rotates seasonally to keep things exciting for returning customers. There’s a wide variety of gift boxes, and you can even build your own custom set with hand-picked treats!

Right in front of MOMO’S HOUSE, you’ll find Kiriake Pocket Park — a charming little rest area perfect for travelers!
↓↓↓ It features a foot bath, a hand bath, and restrooms — a perfect spot to take a break and soak your feet in warm spring water (a quintessential Japanese travel experience!).

Recommended Items at MOMO’S HOUSE

Out of all the wonderful baked goods at MOMO’S HOUSE, I picked the lemon cookies and chocolate cookies to bring home!

The chocolate cookies are a kid-favorite — so much so that they were devoured before I could even snap a photo!

According to my little taste-tester, they were wonderfully crispy and absolutely delicious!

Time to taste the lemon cookies myself.

Crisp, crumbly, and oh-so-delicious… (I savored every bite, murmuring “yum, yum” the whole time!)
The sweetness is gentle and refined, with bits of lemon peel adding a bright, zesty accent.
