Hello there!
This is Gussan, writer for SaruKuma!

Today I’m introducing
Shokupan Lobos, located in
Naganemnami, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City!

It’s a specialty shokupan (Japanese milk bread) shop that opened in January 2020♪
Spotted the sign from the street!
Shokupan Lobos is on the ground floor of this apartment building, in the leftmost unit.
The parking lot is spacious, but it also serves the residents, so
please be sure to park in the spaces designated for Shokupan Lobos customers.
Here’s the entrance.
The shokupan-shaped sign is just adorable♪
The plain shokupan is freshly baked every hour on the hour —
you can really feel the owner’s commitment to quality.
The interior is clean, simple, and warmly inviting.
The loaves lined up so neatly fill the air
with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread.
Made with carefully selected fresh cream from Hokkaido
and baked one loaf at a time with great care —
“Fluffy Nama Shokupan” (premium raw shokupan)
My expectations were sky-high!
There’s also an eat-in space, so
you can enjoy the bread literally fresh from the oven!
The shop bag is an elegant navy blue featuring a wolf howling at the moon.
That’s right — “Lobos” in Shokupan Lobos
is Spanish for “wolves.”
The piping-hot fresh shokupan comes wrapped in paper rather than plastic,
so once it has cooled, you transfer it to the included plastic bag.
The catalog also features the howling wolf design.
It’s wonderfully simple and refined.
Shokupan Lobos’s premium nama shokupan is
made without honey or eggs, which means
even small children can enjoy it with peace of mind♪

Recommended Menu

Three varieties of nama shokupan!
Plain — ¥670
Raisin — ¥830
Anko (sweet red bean) — ¥600
I thought the prices seemed surprisingly affordable, then realized each loaf is actually 1.5 kin (about 750g).
Great value whether you’re living solo or sharing with the kids!
It also freezes well for later.
The limited-edition anko version was tempting, but
I started with the plain to taste it at its purest!
I tore it apart by hand the proper way (haha).
The crust is firm and substantial, while the inside is wonderfully fluffy.
The more you chew, the more the gentle, mellow sweetness of the bread comes through — a truly memorable nama shokupan♫
