Introducing OBIYAMA TETOTE: A New Kind of Family Complex

Tucked along the East Bypass (Higashi Bypass) in the Kamimizuzenji neighborhood of Chuo-ku, central Kumamoto, OBIYAMA TETOTE is a multi-use complex built with one clear purpose: giving families β€” especially moms β€” a place to genuinely unwind together.

The welcoming exterior of OBIYAMA TETOTE. The complex opened in November 2022 and quickly drew families from across Kumamoto City.

We were lucky to attend a special preview before the Grand Opening on November 19 (Sunday). The facility’s spirit is captured in a phrase displayed at the entrance: “When moms smile, families smile β€” and so does the city.”

Under one roof, OBIYAMA TETOTE brings together four distinct spaces: β‘  Play Land (an indoor kids play area), β‘‘ Studio Prima (a professional photo studio), β‘’ Esthetic Salon Ojas (a beauty and wellness salon), and β‘£ Sakura Delica CafΓ©.

Getting here by car is straightforward. From the East Bypass, head south at the Obiyama 1-chome intersection β€” once you see the shabu-shabu restaurant “Shabu-yo,” OBIYAMA TETOTE is just to the left. You can also enter directly from the bypass road.

The building is clearly visible from the East Bypass. Look for the sign as you head south from the Obiyama 1-chome intersection.

A generous 45-space free parking lot makes this an easy destination for families arriving by car β€” no circling the block, no coin meters.

Play Land: An Indoor Wonderland for Ages 0–12

The cheerful OBIYAMA TETOTE logo greets you right at the entrance β€” a warm welcome for the whole family.

Warm wood-grain interiors give TETOTE a relaxed, homey feel β€” a far cry from the fluorescent chaos of typical play centers.

Play Land was created with a clear vision: a safe, joyful space where moms and children can spend truly happy time together.

Play Land is open to children aged 0–12 (infants under 1 year enter free), and a parent or guardian must accompany all children. No advance reservation is required β€” simply drop in whenever you have spare time. You can choose a 60-minute block session or opt for an all-day free pass to make a full afternoon of it.

Check in at the reception desk before entering the play area. Staff will walk you through session options and pricing.

Pricing details are displayed at the entrance. Payment is accepted in cash and a variety of electronic money (e-money) options such as IC cards and QR payment apps.

Shoes off at the step β€” and you’re in. The floor beyond is high-density foam matting: soft enough that falls rarely lead to tears, sturdy enough for hours of energetic play.

Step inside and notice the soothing color palette immediately. Every toy and fixture is from LITTLE DUTCH, a beloved Dutch brand known for its muted pastel designs β€” giving the whole space a calm, Scandinavian aesthetic that feels just as pleasant for parents as it does for kids.

The wooden toy workbench lets little ones hammer, bolt, and build to their hearts’ content β€” a perennial favorite with younger children.

The play kitchen was popular with everyone β€” boys and girls alike took turns pretending to cook, serve, and taste.

The book corner stocks picture books and storybooks spanning infant to elementary-school age, including some history titles for older siblings.

The reading nook was one of the most consistently occupied spots throughout the entire preview day.

Adorable ride-on buggies and a stainless-steel acoustic “tube telephone” β€” an old-school speaking tube that lets children whisper messages to each other across the room.

A large ball pool keeps the littlest visitors thoroughly entertained β€” including this delightful baby who offered the camera a very approving look.

An obstacle course, climbing wall, and slide round out the active play zone β€” ensuring that high-energy kids never run out of things to do.

More athletic play structures β€” this facility truly has something to match every energy level and age group.

A large interactive panel game wall is destined to become one of the biggest crowd-pleasers in the whole facility.

The touch-panel games let kids play directly with their hands β€” whack-a-mole, a virtual aquarium where tropical fish swim toward you, and more. Even the adults couldn’t resist joining in.

Studio Prima, Esthetic Salon & CafΓ©: Something for the Grown-Ups Too

Head upstairs and the atmosphere shifts entirely. The second floor is home to Studio Prima, a professional photo studio designed to evoke the feeling of a stylish European house studio.

The entrance to Studio Prima on the second floor. Inspired by upscale overseas house studios, the space feels a world away from the standard portrait booth.

Inside, over 15 professionally designed backdrops await β€” ranging from natural and antique to modern and kid-themed. Personal cameras are not permitted in the studio itself; all images are handled by the studio’s photographers.

Shichi-Go-San portrait sessions are available for booking. Shichi-Go-San (δΈƒδΊ”δΈ‰, literally “Seven-Five-Three”) is a beloved Japanese rite of passage in which children aged 3, 5, and 7 dress in traditional kimono for formal family portraits. The studio offers beautiful Japanese-style backdrops for these shoots, with a member discount plan reducing the standard Β₯66,000 package to Β₯44,000.

Naturally lit areas within the studio produce results that look more like editorial magazine photography than conventional portrait shots. Natural, antique, and kids-themed sets are all available β€” a visit to view the sets in person is warmly recommended before booking.

Sharing the second floor is Esthetic Salon Ojas, a beauty and body care salon offering treatments from body detox and carbonated facial care to hair removal. It’s the kind of luxury that transforms a family afternoon out into something that feels genuinely restorative for parents too.

Esthetic Salon Ojas β€” a welcome treat for parents who want a moment for themselves while children play downstairs. Body detox (60 min), carbonated facial (80 min), and full-body hair removal (120 min) are among the treatments on offer.

Whether you’re filling a rainy afternoon, looking for a one-of-a-kind family portrait, or simply need somewhere the children can burn off energy while you catch your breath β€” OBIYAMA TETOTE delivers. It’s already shaping up to be one of the most welcome additions to central Kumamoto’s family landscape.
