Lately, the daytime sun has been giving us a real taste of summer!
At least the laundry dries quickly ♪

Today I’m sharing another wonderful park!
Located in Kengun, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City,
[Shimomura Kita Park] is the spot!

Established back in 1979 (Showa 54), this is a real veteran among Kumamoto’s neighborhood parks!

It’s just a one-minute walk from the Kengun-ko-mae streetcar stop on the tram line!
You’ll find it right across from Kengun Elementary School ☆

Fellow SaruKuma writer Ayu-mama also previously introduced
[Kodawari Nosanhin Chokubai Nakata], a charming local produce shop just nearby!

There are plenty of benches scattered throughout the park!

A handwashing station and drinking fountain.

And don’t miss this magnificent tree standing tall in the middle of the park!

No matter the time of day, you’ll always find shade somewhere along it!

There aren’t any vending machines inside the park, but there is one just outside.

You can also grab drinks at [Nakata] nearby ♬

Highlights of Shimomura Kita Park

As for play equipment, the only proper one is this swing set (;^ω^)

There’s also a sandbox!

There’s even a small grassy hill (*^-^*)

My kid loves pushing their bicycle up to the top, hopping on, and zooming down the slope ☆
※It can pick up surprising speed, so always keep an eye on your surroundings (‘◇’)ゞ

The open lawn area is generously sized too — on weekends you’ll see parents and kids playing catch,
and after school it fills up with elementary schoolers having a blast ♬

Honestly, this park is super close to my house, so during last year’s state-of-emergency stay-home period,
we came here often to play in the sandbox (*^-^*)

With cherry blossoms 🌸, chinquapin trees, and other big leafy giants, there’s plenty of shade —
and best of all, you’re surrounded by greenery that just feels wonderful!

It’s an especially lovely spot as the warm season rolls in ☆
