Introducing Nakata Premium Farm Produce Shop

Today I’m taking you to a hidden gem in Kengun, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City
Nakata Premium Farm Produce Shop!
This time we’re switching gears with a stop at a charming local greengrocer.

The shop sits right in front of the Kengun-kō-mae tram stop on the Kumamoto City Tram line — super easy to find!
Marist Gakuen school is right next door.
The exterior is bright and colorful — you can’t miss it!
There’s even a parking lot right out front — perfect if you’re driving!
Sorry the sign is a bit hard to read in the photo — the reflection wouldn’t cooperate!

Monday–Saturday: 11:00–19:00
Public Holidays: 11:00–17:00
Closed: Sundays
This shop has been getting rave reviews from local moms for ages,
and I’d been dying to check it out,
but never got around to it…
Until today — my very first visit!
The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by an explosion of color from fresh vegetables and fruit!
Seasonal vegetables lined up as far as the eye can see!
Beautiful displays and adorable handwritten pop signs make everything look irresistible!

They even share recommended ways to cook each vegetable — no more wondering what to make for dinner!
They even display photos of the local farmers!
Knowing exactly who grew your vegetables makes you feel so much more confident about what you’re eating.

All the vegetables are sourced directly from the farmers, with strict selection based on the soil and water used in cultivation.

“If it’s out of season, we don’t carry it. Only the freshest seasonal vegetables and fruits!”
The friendly staff member’s passion for vegetables really came through as she explained the shop’s philosophy.

They source not just from Kumamoto Prefecture, but from across Japan as well — apparently they had Miyakojima mangoes in stock just recently!

The shop carries way more than just produce — the variety is impressive!
Fresh bread from popular Kumamoto bakeries…
Frozen pizzas and gyoza dumplings…
A wonderful selection of snacks and sweets…
Specialty vinegars you won’t find at the supermarket…
And of course, the famous Kyushu Pancake Mix is here too — a great souvenir!
Don’t miss the Moromi Pork — pork from pigs raised on “moromi” (sake lees), a uniquely Japanese feed!
It’s so popular that some customers come specifically for it, and it often sells out!
The day I visited, the manager was actually away visiting the Moromi Pork producer.

Recommended Picks at Nakata Premium Farm Produce Shop

Since my son is absolutely crazy about cucumbers, I picked up some of theirs to take home!
Shimamura Farm cucumbers — 2 for ¥158.
Cucumbers grown with lactic acid bacteria and enzymes!
They’re a generous 26cm long — seriously impressive!
At our house, we kept it simple and served them in a fresh green salad!
Look at that! Can you tell how juicy they are?

The texture is incredibly crunchy — so delicious you can munch on them plain, with nothing added!
If you think you don’t like cucumbers, give these a try — you might just change your mind!
That’s how good they really are.

Even kids who normally turn their noses up at vegetables might just become converts after tasting produce this fresh.
