Introducing YAMAKI

Hello, travelers!
I’ve been craving a Costco run for a whole week now โ€”
this is Binako, your SaruKuma writer!

Today I’m excited to introduce you to
“YAMAKI”, a charming little crepe shop located in
Naka, Tamana City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Fun fact: “Osama Sando,” a sandwich shop I featured previously, is right nearby.

I parked my car right next to the shop.
It sits next to a Hotto Motto bento shop, so there’s space to park out front as well.

The flag outside proudly says “Soy Milk Crepe” (tonyu kurepu).
More on what makes them “soy milk” in just a moment!

Inside, there are two cozy table seats โ€”
perfect if you’d like to sit down and enjoy your crepe right away.

The shop also displays the origins of the fruits they use โ€” a lovely touch for ingredient-conscious visitors.

Recommended Menu at YAMAKI

Here’s what’s on the menu:
ใƒปCrepes โ€” from 350 yen
ใƒปWrapped Crepes (tsutsumi crepes) โ€” 200 yen
ใƒปDrinks โ€” from 150 yen

These are the wrapped crepes โ€”
palm-sized treats that make perfect souvenirs or grab-and-go snacks.

You’ll even find an unusual “Daigaku Imo Wrapped Crepe” โ€” featuring Japanese candied sweet potato (a classic Japanese snack).
As a sweet potato lover, there was no way I could resist!

I also discovered a brand-new menu item: the “Choco Brownie” crepe.
The name alone tells you it’s going to be delicious!

They’ll even pack your crepes in a gift box, making them a great choice when visiting friends or bringing a sweet treat to a gathering.

First up, I tried the Strawberry & Banana Crepe (450 yen).

I can already hear you saying, “Strawberry AND banana? Greedy much?”
Well, I wanted both โ€” what can I say?

The fresh whipped cream has a gentle, balanced sweetness that never feels heavy.
It’s wonderfully thick and creamy, sweetened with kibi sugar (Japanese unrefined cane sugar).

The crepe batter contains soy milk โ€” that’s why they’re called “soy milk crepes.”
The soy milk gives the batter a delightfully chewy, mochi-like texture with a clean bite.
It’s so light I devoured it in no time!

Next is the Daigaku Imo Wrapped Crepe.
It comes loaded with classic Japanese candied sweet potato โ€” a beloved local treat.

The natural sweetness of the sweet potato pairs perfectly with the cream.
And that signature sticky-sweet glaze of daigaku imo? Absolute magic.

And finally, the Choco Brownie Wrapped Crepe โ€”
generously filled with homemade raspberry sauce for a sweet-and-tangy flavor explosion.

The bright tartness, the creamy sweetness, and the rich brownie chocolate combine into something unbeatable.
It’s indulgent yet refreshingly balanced โ€” a crepe you can truly savor.

Wholesome and absolutely delicious.
If you’re traveling around Kumamoto, do yourself a favor and stop by YAMAKI for a taste of these dreamy soy milk crepes!
