Welcome to Kikuchi Park
Hello there!
This is Asukarando, your Sarukuma writer.
Today we’re heading to a hidden local gem in Waifu, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture—
the wonderful “Kikuchi Park”!
Tucked right next to the historic Kikuchi Shrine, this park is a perfect family stop in central Kyushu (^o^)
There’s a parking lot signposted along the road, but heads up—this one leads to the open grass lawn area without play equipment (^-^)
The lawn area has a covered bench—great for a quick rest in the shade.
Just past that first parking sign, you’ll find a second parking area that sits right by the large playground equipment (^-^)
If you’re traveling with kids, this second lot is the one you want!
Convenient bonus: there’s a vending machine right by the road into the parking area.
The restrooms are located one level below the playground area.
You’ll also find handwashing stations down on the lower terrace.
Another covered bench sits handily right beside the swing set.
Why Kikuchi Park Is a Must-Visit
Just look at this!!!
It’s a giant maze-like adventure playground that totally steals the show \(^o^)/
“Wait, how do I even get over there?!”
It really is a proper maze that keeps both kids and grown-ups guessing (^-^)
Here’s the view from the back side!
And so many different slides to choose from (^-^)/
There’s even a Tarzan rope—this place is packed with fun (^-^)/
Down on the lower terrace, you’ll spot an adorable bench-style swing!
There’s a whole variety of wooden athletic obstacles to tackle, too (^-^)/
First up: the single log balance beam (^-^)/
Pro tip from experience:
It actually wobbles—a lot!
The wobbly suspension bridge—this one really sways too (^^;
The net-style crossing—our son was hanging on for dear life!
There were a few obstacles that were still too tricky for him—
but those are something fun to look forward to as he grows (^-^)
And with so many cherry trees on the grounds, this spot must be incredible for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in spring (⌒0⌒)/~~
So why not pop by Kikuchi Park during your trip to Kumamoto? (⌒0⌒)/~~
