Ishibashi Park in Yatsushiro (Higashiyo-machi Minami): A Colorful Playground & Lawn Beside a Cozy Hot Spring
2023.05.23

A SaruKuma writer visits Ishibashi Park in Higashiyo-machi Minami, Yatsushiro City, with a hands-on report β covering family-friendly highlights, access, and opening hours.
About Ishibashi Park
Hello there! I’m Chomo, a writer for SaruKuma πΈ
Today I’m introducing a wonderful little gem in Higashiyo-machi, Yatsushiro City:
Ishibashi Park (η³ζ©ε
¬ε).
Ishibashi Park sits right next to Michi-no-Eki Toyo (a roadside station), so there’s a large, easy parking lot β
The charming log-cabin-style restroom building is just a short walk from the play areas βͺ
The universal (multi-purpose) restroom is Western-style and beautifully spacious.
It also has its own hand-washing sink β
The regular men’s and women’s restrooms are Japanese-style (squat toilets), so if you’re traveling with little ones, the universal restroom is the easier choice π
A diaper-changing station is available inside the Michi-no-Eki restrooms, so head over there if you need one!
Right next to the restrooms you’ll find both a drink vending machine and an ice cream vending machine.
A real lifesaver during Kumamoto’s hot summer days when you’re running low on cold drinks βͺ
What Makes Ishibashi Park Special
Ishibashi Park is split into two areas β a smaller play space and a larger one packed with colorful equipment.
The smaller area, on the Michi-no-Eki side, is designed for younger children and features adorable ride-on style play equipment π
There’s a covered bench too β the perfect spot to enjoy onigiri (rice balls) on a sunny day β‘
The play space sits up on a small rise above the parking lot, and my son had a blast running up and down the slope over and over βͺ
And here’s the bigger play area!
Kids were running around having a fantastic time on the bright, colorful equipment.
There are several types of slides β tunnel slides, curvy spiral ones, and gentle low-angle slides perfect for the littlest visitors π
There are monkey bars too.
Watching the elementary-school kids tackle them again and again was just heart-meltingly cute β
Right beside the playground is a beautifully maintained lawn area β ideal for kicking a ball around or blowing soap bubbles βͺ
This area also has a roofed bench, so you can take shelter from a light shower or stop for a relaxed picnic lunch β
The adjacent Michi-no-Eki Toyo features its own hot spring (onsen) β and even includes private family baths.
There are also great-value bundle plans combining a meal and a soak βͺ
After your bath, treat yourself to soft-serve ice cream or freshly baked bread sold on-site β highly recommended π
