Introducing Koga Neighborhood Park

Hello, travelers!
This is Igaguri, your Sarukuma writer 🌰

Today I’m excited to share a delightful local gem:
Koga Neighborhood Park (古閑近隣公園), located in Taimei-machi, Tamana City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Look at that impressive park sign!

The park sits right next to the Taimei-en (たいめい苑) senior care facility, so just turn at this sign and you’re there!

The parking area can fit about 10 cars — plenty of space for a casual visit!

Why Koga Neighborhood Park Is Worth a Stop

First up — let’s hop on a balance bike and zoom around!

Balance bikes (kick bikes) are famously the fastest way for kids to learn how to ride a regular bicycle.
Kids absolutely love them — but finding a smooth, safe surface to ride on can be tricky in many parks.

Another spot I know with great riding paths is Tsuboigawa Ryokuchi Park’s “Higokko Jungle” in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City. The walkways there are nice and smooth, and you’ll always see kids racing each other on their bikes.

But chasing after your kids on foot? That’s exhausting (haha).

Koga Neighborhood Park is more compact, which is exactly why I love it ♪

What’s this — a little stage?
Kids love putting on impromptu performances here.

Right next to it, there’s a shaded bench.
Lifesaver!
Parents, take a break here!

And here’s the magical part — I found tons of four-leaf clovers in this area!
I even spotted a five-leaf clover ♪

There’s also a small grassy hill!

Slide down on a balance bike — fun!
Glide down on a sled — fun!
Or just lie down and roll all the way to the bottom — also fine! (At least, that’s the kind of relaxed parent I aspire to be.)

There’s plenty of space to lay down a picnic blanket or set up a small tent.

Here’s the hand-washing area.

And now the playground equipment comes into view!

The lineup includes a seesaw, climbing equipment, and swings.

More playground equipment isn’t always better.
As long as there’s enough to keep kids happy, that’s all that matters! (Less stress for parents, too.)

Here are the seesaw handles.
They look like a fairly modern design.

Two classic swings.

And next to the climbing structure — a covered bench!
Whoever designed this park really gets it…!

Two slides, monkey bars, and a pretend shop/grocery store.
My kid loves the candy shop one. Wonder where I saw that…?
Right next door is a spacious open ground!

Perfect for older siblings to run around and play.

Restrooms are close by, too. (The seesaw is on the left.)

This is the men’s restroom — both men’s and women’s restrooms only have Japanese-style (squat) toilets.

One thing to note — there are no vending machines, so be sure to bring your own drinks!
