Introducing Amakusa Sports Park
Hello travelers! This is Suno, writer for [Sarukuma].
Today I’m introducing a hidden gem in Amakusa Town, Amakusa City:
[Amakusa Sports Park].
Driving along National Route 389 from Shimoda toward Ushibuka, you’ll spot the park on your left.
The popular Shiratsuruhama Beach is right nearby — perfect for combining a park visit with a seaside stroll!
The parking lot is enormous!
There are accessible parking spaces for wheelchair users, and you’ll even find a basketball hoop set up in one corner of the lot.
The building you can see in the back is the restroom (with vending machines too).
There are separate Japanese-style toilets for men and women, with a Western-style multi-purpose toilet in the middle.
A diaper-changing station is available too, so families with young children can visit with peace of mind.
The grounds are vast, and there are tennis courts as well.
We spotted plenty of locals walking their dogs and going for a jog!
Out on the multi-purpose ground, surrounded by lush nature, you’ll often see groups happily enjoying a round of ground golf — a popular Japanese pastime similar to mini-golf ♪
Along the walking paths, you’ll find covered benches and waist-twisting fitness stations spaced out as athletic equipment.
(There are also drinking fountains and hand-washing stations.)
This one is the back-stretching bench.
You’ll also find forward-bend ladders, back-arch supporters, spiral trees, pommel-horse style stretchers, and other fitness gear scattered throughout the park!
Highlights of Amakusa Sports Park
A short walk from the parking lot brings you to the playground area.
Right at the front, there’s a colorful play set perfect for younger children.
This slide has a fun, maze-like design.
Even my 2-year-old daughter had a great time on it ♪
Just be careful — the railings are a bit on the high side!
Watch out — the equipment can be wet from morning dew!
Here’s the view from the top of the structure.
The slope is fairly steep, so don’t lean over too far!
(There are safety fences, but the gaps are wide enough that small children could slip through, so stay alert.)
This stepped slide is my son’s favorite ♪
He keeps tackling it again and again.
But there’s a catch!
The entire route up to the slide is made of climbing nets!
It might be a bit challenging for very young children…
Even adults need stamina worthy of a Ninja Warrior contestant! (laughs)
When you get tired, take a break ♪
Covered benches, restrooms, and hand-washing stations are scattered around the multi-purpose ground, which is super convenient.

If you’re up for a challenge, see if you can conquer the whole athletic course!
Surrounded by both mountains and sea, Amakusa Sports Park is a refreshing nature escape that’s well worth a visit on your trip to Kumamoto.
