Introducing Nonoyu Natural Hot Spring
Hello, travelers! I’m Milk, a Sarukuma writer with an undying love for dairy.
Today I’m taking you to Shisui Town in Kikuchi City to visit
Nonoyu Natural Hot Spring.
This wonderful onsen has 13 private family bath rooms in total — and even a dedicated bath for pets!
For those of us who consider our furry friends part of the family, this is a delightful touch (^^)

The signature feature of Nonoyu is its incredibly silky, smooth, almost slippery water!
The spring is a sodium bicarbonate hot spring (“tansan suiso enen”), known for gently exfoliating old skin cells and washing away excess oils. With a high pH of 8.2, it’s affectionately called the “Beauty Bath” and “Refreshing Bath”.
It’s said to be effective for burns, bruises, gout, diabetes, digestive issues, cuts, liver conditions, skin issues, beautiful skin, atopic dermatitis, and more (^^)

As you walk along the beautifully paved stone path,

you arrive at an entrance that feels just like stepping into a high-end Japanese ryokan inn.

At the entrance, adorable goldfish welcome you in their tank ☆

Step inside and you’ll find a comfortable lounge area!
If there’s a wait, this peaceful space makes the time fly by.

You purchase your tickets from a vending machine and hand them to the front desk.
The baths come in three main categories: Type A, Type B, and Type C.
Type A: Up to 3 adults (2 elementary-aged children count as 1 adult). Includes both an indoor bath and an outdoor bath.
Type B: Up to 3 adults. Indoor bath only.
Type C: Up to 4 adults. Western-style indoor bath only.
Tickets for additional adults are also available.
Type A… Weekdays 1,700 yen / Weekends & holidays 1,900 yen
Type B… Weekdays 1,400 yen / Weekends & holidays 1,600 yen
Type C… Weekdays 2,300 yen / Weekends & holidays 2,500 yen
(Additional adult: 300 yen / Additional child: 100 yen)
You can also extend your stay by either 10 or 30 minutes.

Here’s a photo showing all the room options.
On weekdays until 5 PM, they also offer a solo bathing option.
It’s 600 yen for indoor-only or 750 yen with an outdoor bath — the perfect chance to enjoy a private bath all to yourself!

There’s even a dedicated bath for pets — just 500 yen for 30 minutes!

After checking in, I noticed a beautiful inner courtyard on the way to the baths.

It has such a wonderful traditional Japanese atmosphere — incredibly relaxing!
The courtyard has an open-air design, so you can see the night sky above. It’s a perfect spot to cool down (^。^)

The restrooms are also located off the courtyard.
Now, let’s head to the bath!
Why We Recommend Nonoyu Natural Hot Spring

This time, since it was a special occasion, I chose Type C — the Western-style indoor bath (2,300 yen weekdays, 2,500 yen weekends & holidays)!
I picked the “Koto” room. Type C rooms are the only ones that come with amenities (rental bath towels, etc.), so all you need to bring is a change of clothes — super convenient!

I opened the door, and there it was — the most stunning bath!

Set against Western-style wood, the hair and body care amenities have a lovely Darjeeling tea fragrance — it really feels like staying at a luxury hotel.
The bath temperature is just right — neither too hot nor too cool — and the silky, slippery water was absolutely heavenly.
Truly amazing!!
All my fatigue melted away in an instant.

The changing room is also wonderfully spacious!
My son and I could both sit and stretch our legs out fully — it’s that roomy! lol

The vanity area also has plenty of space.

Ladies will love the included skincare set.
This single set includes cleanser, face wash, toner, and lotion.

The biggest surprise of all? The hairdryer!
I’ll admit, this was my very first time ever using a Dyson hairdryer — and it happened right here at Nonoyu! lol

Toothbrushes and razors are also provided. Such thoughtful hospitality!
※These amenities are only available in Type C rooms※

After your bath, you can grab drinks, ice cream, or takeout treats.
◯ Drinks (150 yen)… Pepsi Cola, Dekavita C, Ginger Ale, White Water, White Soda, 100% Orange Juice, Oolong Tea
◯ Various Highballs (380 yen)
◯ Various Sours (380 yen)
◯ Canned Beer 350ml (280 yen)
◯ Ice Cream (150 yen)
◯ Takeout Menu… 10 Chicken Wings (1,500 yen), Karaage Fried Chicken (500 yen), Chicken Nanban (560 yen), 2 Fried Taiyaki (300 yen), 3 Crispy Croquettes (420 yen)

There’s a small shop right next to the ticket vending machine, too!
Although it’s a bit of a drive from central Kumamoto City, this hot spring is incredibly soothing.
It’s the perfect spot to spend quality time with your family — and even your beloved pets (^O^)
