Outing Spots

2024.09.19

📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A SaruKuma writer’s first-hand report on “Kumamoto Agricultural Park (Country Park)” in Sakae, Koshi City. Admission from just 300 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Hello there!
This is Yutomino, writer for SaruKuma!

Even with the recent disaster-level heatwave continuing day after day,
I headed out for an adventure (with all the proper precautions, of course!),
so please come along for the ride♪

Today I’m introducing a fantastic spot located in
Sakae, Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Kumamoto Agricultural Park (Country Park)”.

The parking is enormous — there are five separate parking lots!
In fact, the popular Japanese band SEKAI NO OWARI apparently performed a live concert here once♪
That should give you an idea of just how spacious this place really is!

Restrooms and vending machines are available right at the parking lot.

After entering and walking through the tunnel,
you’ll arrive at the reception area where a thermographic camera
automatically checks your temperature!

Admission rates:
March–November: 300 yen for adults
December–February: 100 yen for adults
High school students and younger: FREE all year round!

For locals, an annual pass is just 1,200 yen,
which is amazing value!

There’s also a shop where you can grab
drinks, ice cream, snacks, and souvenirs!

They also sell swim diapers (200 yen each, all sizes) and masks.

And get this — play equipment can be borrowed for FREE!♬

Strollers and even wheelchairs are available for free rental too!
This means lighter luggage for visiting families —
such a thoughtful service!

What Makes This Place Special

“Country Park” is incredibly spacious, packed with things to see and do,
but today’s main attraction is this♬

The summer splash pool, available during the hot season!
And of course, it’s FREE for park visitors!

Reservations can be made by phone up to the day before,
or you can come on the day if there’s space available.

Open until August 30 (closed every Tuesday; if Tuesday is a holiday, closed the following day)

Session 1: 9:30–10:30
Session 2: 10:50–11:50
Session 3: 12:10–13:10
Session 4: 13:30–14:30
Session 5: 14:50–15:50 — rotating time slots.

Time management is strict —
when the session ends, everyone must promptly exit the pool.

This is because between sessions, staff members enter the pool
to clean up debris with nets and keep everything spotless.

They work in masks under the blazing sun.
We truly appreciate them!♪
(Depending on the day’s situation, an announcement may say “Those who wish to extend their session may do so.”)

Each family or group is assigned its own table seating.

Cleaning cloths and alcohol disinfectant for the tables and chairs are provided too.

So thorough!

Here’s a view of the poolside.
The shaded areas are a real lifesaver♪

My son was thrilled!♪
Toys for in-pool play need to be brought from home.

My son brought a bucket and ball.
The older kids brought water guns, floaties, and giant orca-shaped pool toys —
everyone was having a blast!♪

The pool depth comes up to about an adult’s knee,
making it perfectly safe for little ones♪

There’s a drinking fountain too♪

And a nursing room♪
The nursing room doesn’t have air conditioning, though,
so a handheld fan and ice packs are essential!☆

Country Park isn’t just about the summer pool!

You’ll find massive open lawns and shaded benches under the trees stretching beyond what the camera can capture.
You might even spot cows out for their walks from the nearby ranch!♬

The playground area is also seriously impressive!

An observation tower that looks straight out of “Castle in the Sky” by Studio Ghibli!

And a gorgeous rose garden!♪
I once saw a family taking gorgeous location photos here♪

With so much to see and do,
“Country Park” is the perfect family destination!

Be sure to check it out during your Kumamoto trip!☆
