About the Shop

Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Mikan ๐ŸŠ, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’d like to introduce you to
Tamago Kobo Sagara, a charming little egg shop located in
Kubota, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Here, you’ll find truly premium eggs laid by hens fed a special diet of nine natural herbs blended with egoma (perilla) seed cake.

The signature product is the famous “Egoma Tamago” (Perilla Eggs).

The shop has parking for 3 cars right next to the building.

And right beside the parking area, you’ll find something fun:

A 24-hour egg vending machine!

This is perfect if you’re passing by or want to grab some eggs outside of the shop’s regular hours โ€” only in Japan, right? โ™ช

The vending machine is stocked with eggs in a variety of sizes and quantities!

Even though there were some empty slots, customers kept dropping by to buy eggs while I was taking photos!

It’s a hidden gem โ€” a beloved direct-sale egg shop that locals know and love โ˜บ๏ธ

To be honest, I’m a regular here myself (haha).

Now, let’s take a peek inside the shop! Eggs lined up everywhere!

Eggs to the left, eggs to the right โ€” eggs everywhere!
So many beautiful eggs on display.

And here’s my personal favorite section:

The “Busa-tama-chan” Corner (slightly imperfect eggs at bargain prices)

Busa-tama-chan 1.5 kg (400 yen)

Busa-tama-chan 3 kg (800 yen)

They might not look perfect (Grade B), but the taste is absolutely incredible!

You get a generous amount at a great price โ€” I always swing by for these ๐Ÿ’“

This time, I picked up the 1.5 kg Busa-tama-chan and enjoyed them right away with TKG (tamago kake gohan โ€” raw egg over rice), Japan’s iconic comfort food, for lunch ๐Ÿ˜Š

So delicious! Pure happiness in every bite (haha).

The staff also recommended the “Tamago Gohan Shoyu” (special soy sauce for egg over rice, 346 yen) โ€” I really regret not picking that up tooโ€ฆ (haha).

Recommended Menu

This time, I treated myself to the Sorairo Pudding (Sky-Blue Pudding, 250 yen) โ€” a luxurious custard pudding made with the shop’s signature Egoma Tamago.

It’s perfect as a souvenir, a thoughtful gift for guests,

or just a little treat for yourself ๐Ÿฎ

The size is petite โ€”
just right when you need a little snack!

The cute, slender shape is also super charming ๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’“

Pop the lid, and take that first spoonful.

Compared to typical pudding, it’s wonderfully light and refreshing! So easy to eat ๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’“

Even after a full meal, you could happily polish off several of these!

It’s exactly the kind of pudding I love!

And of course, there’s caramel hiding at the bottom ๐Ÿ’“
The caramel has a gentle, mellow sweetness too โ€”

it really lets the rich egg flavor shine while wrapping it in soft sweetness!

A truly relaxing, blissful moment โ™ช

They also offer egg gift sets, and starting in December, they’ll begin selling chicken meat too.

If you’re exploring Kumamoto, definitely add Tamago Kobo Sagara to your list โ€” you won’t regret it!
