About the Restaurant

Hello, travelers!
This is Mikan, writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m introducing a wonderful spot located in
Suizenji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
L’Oasis (ロアジス)“.

Even with kids in tow, sometimes you just crave authentic French cuisine, right?
But French restaurants — where atmosphere is everything — often aren’t kid-friendly…

That’s why I was thrilled to find this gem!
Children are welcome!
And the ambiance is absolutely top-notch!

The restaurant’s name “L’Oasis” is displayed in stylish lettering on various parts of the building’s exterior.

This is the L’Oasis logo near the entrance.
There’s no on-site parking, but a coin-operated parking lot is right next door!

Once you step inside, the calm and refined atmosphere makes you completely forget that you’re on a busy street.
Seating includes both counter seats and table seats.

Temperature checks and hand sanitizing are done at the entrance, and each table also has a card reminding guests of hygiene measures.
Their thorough approach to hygiene leaves a great impression!

I visited with a stroller this time, and the staff kindly removed one of the table chairs to create space for it!

Finding a French restaurant where I can dine with my child
made me absolutely overjoyed!

Recommended Menu

The lunch menu is wonderfully simple — just 4 options!

Risotto Lunch: 1,750 yen
Salad Lunch: 1,750 yen
L’Oasis A Lunch (reservation required): 4,000 yen
L’Oasis B Lunch: 2,500 yen

Isn’t it amazing to find French cuisine at these prices?
All lunch options are served as full courses!

This time, I was celebrating a special occasion, so I made a reservation and ordered the
L’Oasis A Lunch (4,000 yen).

The staff carefully explains each dish, including the ingredients and the locally-sourced vegetables used in every plate.

Amuse-bouche

An amuse-bouche is a small pre-appetizer bite served before the meal officially begins — a charming French tradition!

This one was like an elegant Western-style chawanmushi (Japanese savory egg custard).
It was absolutely delicious!

Today’s Appetizer

Each plate is genuinely artistic!
The whitish element is a garlic-based sauce that was wonderfully flavorful, and you might spot some bitter melon (goya) on the plate too.

Goya in French cuisine?! I was surprised, but
in the hands of a true professional, even goya transforms into something elegant and delicious — what a revelation!

Soup

On this day, the soup was made with turnip (kabu).
The first sip seemed light, but from the second sip onward, the rich depth of flavor was incredible!

And yet the gentle character of the turnip remained perfectly intact!
A warm, comforting bowl of joy.

Today’s Main Course (Fish)

What a stunning presentation!
It looked like something straight out of “Grand Maison Tokyo,” the famous Japanese fine-dining drama — I got so excited!

The visual beauty alone is breathtaking.

Inside, salmon and shrimp are wrapped in a delicate corn-based crepe.
A fantastic dish where you can enjoy both texture and flavor!

Today’s Main Course (Meat)

This was a dish featuring Iberico pork, accompanied by a green mustard sauce
that paired beautifully with both the vegetables and meat — I devoured it in no time!

Freshly baked bread is also served alongside this course!

Dessert

The pure white presentation was breathtaking.
White dish, white dessert. Almost too beautiful.

Honestly, I almost didn’t want to disturb the artistry!

Made with almond and coconut milk, this dish offered an exquisite balance of nutty flavor and gentle, milky sweetness.

I chose coffee for the post-meal drink, and
the dessert’s sweetness paired wonderfully with black coffee!

I’m no food critic — just a mom of one — so my descriptions might fall a little short.

But! The cuisine at L’Oasis is absolutely top-tier!
The beauty isn’t just on the plate — every flavor is masterful!

Simply perfect.

I often dine at course-style restaurants for special occasions, and
this was easily the best experience I’ve had in recent memory!

Wonderful atmosphere! Family-friendly!
