A Sarukuma writer pays a personal visit to Bakery & Café Daisy in Takayanagi-machi, Uto City — a charming British-style bakery in Kumamoto. We cover family-friendly features, access, and opening hours.
Welcome to Bakery & Café Daisy
Hello travelers, this is Suno, your Sarukuma writer!
Today I’m taking you to a delightful little spot tucked away in Takayanagi-machi, Uto City:
Bakery & Café Daisy.
Look for the colorful banner across the street from Drug Store Cosmos Uto — that’s your landmark.
It’s a touch tricky to spot at first, but follow the lane back and you’ll find a gravel parking lot with space for about six cars.
Push open the adorable British-style door and — voilà — you’re in a bakery!
Many of the breads were already sold out the day I visited, but here’s the upside…♪
Several loaves were marked down!
Even the shokupan (Japanese milk bread) was half off — bargain hunter’s dream.
I grabbed my favorite — a cornet (cone-shaped sweet bread) — and took it to a nearby park.
The dough was super soft and fluffy — easy for kids to eat — and packed with sweet, dreamy cream♪
Then, halfway through… wait a minute?
The other end was hiding chocolate cream! Two flavors in one — what a happy little surprise♪
Heading back inside Bakery & Café Daisy, you’ll find a drink bar, and the shelves at the back (normally lined with bread).

And out in the garden, there’s a log-cabin-style building…
Any guesses what’s inside?
It’s a karaoke room!!!
The locals use it as a community gathering spot, and students drop by after school for some singing fun♪
A bakery with its very own karaoke room? I’m pretty sure Bakery & Café Daisy is one of a kind in this regard! (Please confirm pricing on-site.)
Recommended Menu at Bakery & Café Daisy
Just as popular as the bread are the takeaway bento boxes. Several customers stopped by to pick theirs up while I was there.
You can also order sandwiches and party-platter assortments♪
On sunny days, the terrace seating is just lovely.
The owner is clearly into home gardening, so sipping a drink while gazing out at the greenery is a peaceful way to pass the time♪
Daisy is set up inside a renovated home, and warm sunlight pours into the dining area.
There are 3 table seats.
High chairs for kids are also available.
The menu is wonderfully extensive — choosing is half the fun.
The one-plate Daily Lunch Special is ¥1,500 and limited to just 5 servings a day.
It’s like an “adult version of a kids’ meal” — irresistible, honestly♪
And these hearty teishoku set meals? All ¥1,000 including tax — incredibly reasonable!
The pasta selection is also generous.
And yes — there are kids’ meals on the menu.
Side dishes like onigiri rice balls and miso soup are perfect for babies or little ones with smaller appetites♪
You can mix and match set menus and drinks however you like.
And then there’s the spacious tatami room!
Four traditional tatami tables, each seating four people.
The washi paper lantern lights add a lovely Japanese touch (just keep an eye on little ones near the shoji paper screens!).
There’s a kids’ play area stocked with child-sized chairs and tons of toys.
While the kids stay busy, parents can finally enjoy a leisurely lunch♪
They’ve even got a massage chair on hand!
15 minutes for ¥100 (omakase course)
Now THAT’s a one-coin slice of relaxation♪
Slide open the fusuma (Japanese sliding door) and you’ll find the restrooms.
The Western-style toilet has a kids’ seat too.
Children’s tableware is also available, of course.
Near the entrance, you’ll spot handmade straps and magnets for sale — lovely little souvenirs.
Whether you stop by for fresh-baked bread, a takeaway bento, a relaxed lunch with friends in the tatami room, or a karaoke session with the family, Bakery & Café Daisy has something for everyone. Don’t miss it on your Kumamoto travels♪
