Today, I’m taking you to a wonderful little spot in Tsukide, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Shunsai Gohan” — a hidden gem for delicious Japanese homestyle meals.

This shop opened its doors in November and is still brand new!
The charming food illustrations on the windows are sure to whet your appetite the moment you walk by…

Convenient parking is available right in front of the shop ^^

Hand sanitizer is provided inside the shop for peace of mind ♪

Step inside, and you’ll find the shelves filled with beautifully arranged bento boxes and side dishes.

There’s also a great selection of drinks and juices on offer,
making it the perfect stop for grabbing lunch or supplies for a day out ♪

The variety of side dishes is impressive, and what really stands out is that
everything in the shop is handmade — meaning you can enjoy authentic homestyle Japanese flavors right away!

There’s a wonderful variety of bento boxes to choose from:
Karaage (Fried Chicken) Bento — 500 yen
Makunouchi Bento (Assorted Bento) — 580 yen
Salted Mackerel Bento — 530 yen
Ginger Pork Bento — 550 yen
All at wonderfully wallet-friendly prices ( *´艸｀)

Salted Rice Ball (Shio Musubi) — 90 yen
Bonito Flake Rice Ball (Okaka Onigiri) — 100 yen
Chinese-style Sticky Rice Ball — 130 yen
These onigiri (rice balls) are perfect for a quick snack, especially for the little ones ♪

And get this — they even stock cup soups and cup noodles!
The selection is fantastic.
You can grab a quick cup of instant noodles along with your bento or deli items.

What’s even more convenient — there’s a microwave and hot water pot inside the shop,
so you can heat up your bento or prepare your cup noodles right on the spot!

Feast your eyes on Shunsai Gohan’s famous croquettes!

The croquettes (korokke) and minced meat cutlets (menchi-katsu) are also entirely
handmade, so you can enjoy them with complete peace of mind ♪

Naturally, I had to try it for myself —
so I picked up the Dinner Set for 2 People!

The day’s special was Japanese-style hamburger steaks (hambagu), and
the set included 6 hamburger patties for 2 servings — talk about excellent value!

Just open it up, plate it, and…

Dinner is served!
In no time at all, I had a high-quality dinner ready to enjoy.
For anyone who comes home from work too tired to cook,
this is truly a lifesaving service!

What a feast!
It looks absolutely delicious,
so let’s dig in!

First up — the broccoli salad blew me away.
It had bonito flakes mixed in for that lovely Japanese umami flavor,
and chunks of egg added a satisfying richness — absolutely delicious!
I’m definitely going to copy this bonito flake trick at home.

Next, a refreshing sunomono (Japanese vinegar salad)
with onion, cucumber, and chicken tenderloin — every bite delivers wonderful texture and flavor!

The warm, comforting tonjiru (pork miso soup)
warms you right down to your core.
And it’s wonderfully packed with hearty ingredients!

The main hambagu (Japanese hamburger steak) gives off the most incredible aroma —
a true reward for a hamburger lover like me!

So thick and juicy — pure deliciousness!
The meat is fluffy, succulent, and the sauce coats it perfectly,
making it a wonderful pairing with steamed rice.

When you’re tired and just need a break,
the Dinner Set is an absolute lifesaver!
