A hands-on visit report from a Saru Kuma writer to “Yoshijien Strawberry Picking” in Ueki-machi, Kumamoto City. Prices start from 240 yen per 100g. Family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours included.

About the Farm

Hello there! This is Asukarando, your Saru Kuma travel writer.

Today I’m introducing a charming spot located in
Ueki-machi, Kita-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Yoshijien Strawberry Picking”.

Just a short drive from central Kumamoto City, this delightful strawberry farm is a perfect day-trip destination.

And here’s the entrance โ€” let the fun begin!

The parking lot is right at the entrance, and it filled up in no time on the day of our visit!

This is the reception desk.

The farm opens for visitors at 10:00 AM!

The check-in process has been updated since our previous visit.
As part of their hygiene measures, all guests have their temperature checked before entering.

Reception is now divided into two lines: “All-You-Can-Eat” and “Take-Home”.

Handwashing stations and alcohol sanitizer are also available, so visitors can enjoy peace of mind.

Why You’ll Love It

This time, we chose the take-home course!

Today’s variety is the famous “Beni Hoppe” โ€” known for its rich sweetness and juicy texture!

Here’s the price list:

January: 240 yen / 100g
February: 220 yen / 100g
March โ€“ April 10: 200 yen / 100g
April 11 โ€“ May: 180 yen / 100g

And without further adoโ€ฆ

Strawberry picking time!

On with the plastic gloves, and we’re ready to go!

(Children’s gloves were available too, but they were still a bit big for my little one โ€” the staff said it was perfectly fine to pick without them.)

Inside the greenhouse, it’s strawberries as far as the eye can see!
And it’s surprisingly warm โ€” you’d never guess it’s winter outside.

I quickly peeled off my coat and scarf โ€” it gets toasty in there!

The strawberries are adorable, but the strawberry blossoms are just as charming!

The berries hang at just the right height for little ones, making them easy for kids to pick on their own โ€” what a treat!

Before we knew it, our basket was full of these gorgeous, juicy-looking strawberries!

My son was begging, “I want to eat them now!”
So we paid for our berries and headed straight to the rest area to dig in.

We also picked up some condensed milk (100 yen) for that classic strawberry-and-cream flavor โ€” and bit right in!

So sweet โ€” incredibly delicious!

The strawberries are so big and filling that even just a few will leave your tummy happy.

Calling all strawberry lovers to “Yoshijien Strawberry Picking”!

Since everything’s inside the greenhouse, it’s a perfect rain-or-shine activity for families to enjoy together. Highly recommended!
