Introducing Croquette Shop Mifune

Hello, travelers!

I’m Binako, a writer for SaruKuma — and I just inherited a table and chairs from my little sister!

Today I’m taking you to a charming spot in Takagi, Mifune Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Croquette Shop Mifune” (コロッケの店みふね).

The bright red triangular roof is so adorable
that I made a U-turn the moment I drove past!

Parking is conveniently located right next to the shop.

There’s even a vending machine outside, so you can grab a drink to go with your croquettes!

Step inside, and to your right you’ll be greeted by
an overflowing variety of bento boxes (the boxes themselves aren’t actually overflowing, of course).
Each one is packed with delicious sides, and the prices are wonderfully reasonable!

Ekiben (Machi-no-Eki Mifune Station Bento) — 800 yen
Deluxe Bento — 600 yen
You can also buy just the side dishes if you prefer!

Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) — 5 to 6 pieces for 400 yen
Incredibly affordable for such generous portions!

The croquette lineup is impressively varied:
Funeppy Egg (150 yen), Lemon Cheese Croquette (100 yen), Curry Cheese Croquette (100 yen)
Special Croquette (100 yen), Cheese Croquette (150 yen), Yakiniku (Grilled Beef) Croquette (150 yen)

On this visit, the Special Croquette, Cheese Croquette, and Yakiniku Croquette were still available!
The selection changes daily, so calling ahead to reserve is a smart idea!

At the order counter, you’ll also find soy sauce and other condiments. The little tomato-shaped container is a cute touch!

Must-Try Menu Items at Croquette Shop Mifune

I picked up one of each: Special Croquette, Cheese Croquette, and Yakiniku Croquette!

Each one comes labeled with a sticker so you can tell them apart at a glance — such a thoughtful touch!

Since they’re fried fresh to order, you can plate them up the moment you get home.
Could it get any better?

Crispy on the outside…

This is the Special Croquette.
With its homemade feel and piping-hot, fluffy filling, it’s absolute perfection.

You really can’t go wrong with the Cheese Croquette…

The melty, gooey cheese is so delicious that
as someone who always saves the best for last,
I savored every cheesy bite right to the very end…

The hearty Yakiniku Croquette is generously stuffed with grilled beef.
The savory seasoning pairs beautifully with rice — a true crowd-pleaser that men and women alike will love.

Beloved by locals and run by a wonderfully kind owner, Croquette Shop Mifune is a must-visit when you’re in the area. Don’t miss it!
