Introducing Sakataya and Uzzablue
Hello, fellow travelers!
It’s already past midday before I knew it —
This is Binako, your Sarukuma writer!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to a charming little spot in Kawakage, Minamiaso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Sakataya and Uzzablue”.

This cozy cafe has opened in a building that used to be a convenience store.
Fun fact: it’s actually run by the mom of one of my friend’s friends!
Convenient parking is available right in front of the shop.
Inside, you’ll find table seating with a warm, welcoming atmosphere
that feels like a true neighborhood gathering spot.
They also sell a lovely selection of baked goods.
You’ll also discover a variety of teas and other goodies on offer —
perfect to grab as a souvenir alongside your lunch.
There are also handcrafted ceramic dishes and other handmade items for sale.
Recommended Menu at Sakataya and Uzzablue

Here’s a look at the dine-in menu:
・Hot Dog — 300 yen (single) / 500 yen (set)
・Cake Set — 500 yen
・Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) — 300 yen
・Onigiri (rice balls, 2 pieces) — 300 yen
They also serve tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet) and curry.
And here’s the takeout menu:
・Daily Bento Box — 550 yen
・Karaage Bento — 550 yen
・Chicken Nanban Bento — 550 yen
・Curry — 550 yen
The shop’s signature horumon (grilled offal) is also a must-try!
This time, I went with the staff’s recommendation —
the curry topped with karaage!
For just 550 yen, the portion is seriously generous.
The photo doesn’t quite do it justice, but trust me — it’s huge.

The curry has a gentle hint of spice, but it’s mild enough for kids to enjoy —
a true taste of mom’s homemade curry.
One bite and you’ll feel like you’ve come home for a comforting family meal.
It’s also wonderfully chunky and packed with ingredients.
The karaage pieces are big and juicy,
pairing perfectly with the curry sauce and making each bite even more irresistible.
It’s the perfect size to share with a child,
and an absolute steal for the price.
Hearty appetites will love it too! ♪
The shop is also active on Instagram, where the hot dogs look absolutely mouthwatering —
so I’m already planning my next visit to try them!
