Introducing Maron no Ki

Hello there!
This is Sunny, your SaruKuma writer!

On a beautiful day off, when you want to let both the kids AND the dog run around freely…
there’s nothing better than a dog-run restaurant where you can also enjoy lunch! Part 2!

Today I’m introducing Maron no Ki, located in Nishihara Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. It’s a hamburger steak and pizza restaurant!

Heading from Kumamoto City toward Nishihara Village, you’ll see signs popping up one after another — just follow the arrows and you’ll arrive!

It’s just a little way up this slope.

If you’re using GPS navigation, enter “Kaze no Sato Campground” and it’ll get you close. The parking lot fits about 20 cars.

Right next to the parking area is an auto-camping ground.

The sites are nicely divided so you can enjoy BBQ and camping without feeling crowded.

And of course, dogs are welcome too!

You can even stay overnight in trailer houses with full air conditioning and heating.

Dogs are welcome here as well!

And here’s the restaurant itself — a charming spot tucked away in the forest!

Inside, there are about 5 tables, and dogs are welcome indoors too.You can help yourself to cold, natural Aso spring water.Behind the restaurant are two large dog-run areas.

You can even dine inside the dog runs!

There’s natural spring water for the pups too.And on rainy days, there’s even a greenhouse-style covered dog run!

In front of the restaurant, there’s a hand-washing station with hot water.

If your pup gets all muddy, you can give them a quick wash before heading home!

Running around freely…
climbing trees…

And depending on the season, you can even go chestnut picking!
It’s a place where not just dogs but kids too can play to their heart’s content.

I could go on forever about the dog run… haha!
But here’s the main event!!

The Menu!
(Prices and content are from our 2021 visit.)

Hamburger steak with a soft-boiled egg, melted cheese, and curry… yes — unbeatable!

My daughter… look at her eating style! (lol)

It’s so good you’ll want to save the best bite for last!Poor pup waiting while we eat!
We came right after a big rainstorm, so she’s all muddy!

Can’t be helped — let’s get the pup something tasty too!
• Doggie Meal (45g) — ¥250

It’s simmered pork heart!

This photo was taken after she’d already eaten about half — even the smallest size has twice this much, so smaller dogs might not be able to finish it all!
